made it awhile ago but my iphoto was screwed up so these are some pics. its just rattle canned cuz i ran out of time and the mud flaps are just temp since i keep getting pulled over with out them. I had 2 days to build it before i left for washington and i was so sick of grinding my lx bumper on everything so i said screw it and went to work. all i had was a small grinder and a welder and a hand drill.

Looks great. You must have a lot of welding experience.

Whoa ! So where'd you buy it ? ;)

Looks like nice work.
How about a pic straight at the back.
Is that 3/16?

That's really nice work bro. Got any pics from below?

I sure hope that isn't sheet metal you made that bumper of.

That looks real good.

the bumper has a internal frame of pipe that i welderd up to get a good looking shape then i covered the pipe with plate steel. this was as tricky bumper to do becasue i really wanted to gain as much clearence as possible with out cutting my frame. so this was the result. the pics of the bumber still has the stock crossmember hiding underneath. i can also still tuck my stock tire up there if i want. I took and arc 1-2 welding course at my local college when i was in 5th ans 6th grade, then took mig at the same place a year later. i highly recomend if your going to learn how to weld u learn arc first then when u get to mig you can just laugh and weld anything any direction.

Nice looking bumper.
What are the little nubs sticking out there for? To weld on recovery points later?

yeah the "nubs" are right where the bumper bolts to the frame so i figured thats there the strongest place for recover would be. It also allowed me to tuck the corners in closer to the body and still leave enough room for the original crossmeber to stay un cut.

Bottom line is its ok for now but this summer when i have time i think im gonna scrap the whole thing and build a new one after building this one i came up with way to many ideas.

That's nice. Just read your dash screen thread; on your next bumper, how about a small hole in the center and a cavity behind to house a rear view camera?

Good work though. The closest I got to a welder in 6th grade was a faulty toaster oven.

Good job Mike! Can you give more details on the materials used and some more detailed pictures? I expect you can sell that one really fast, when you get your other one done. Probably enough to cover cost on both bumpers and then some. Looks great!!

funny u should say that, it was already on the list. i will also recess some back up lights more recovery points, swing away tire carrier, not sure if i will incorperate a rear air tank in it or not but the main reason i will do a new bumper is i have decided im gonna chop the frame. so no sence in having a bumper that works around it.

as for selling it i would prob only sell it for bout $100 since i never really got around to finishing it.

will do however doesnt look like ill be your way anytime soon. but if i am ull be first to know

thanks

well after several inquires from several board members. i decided to post on here since i keep getting PMs. I will be building a few rear bumpers, sliders, skid plates, and maybe a front bumper for 80 series in about 3 moths. i by then will have a modest shop where ill be able to weld again and have some other tools at my disposel. When the time get nearer i will post and let you guys know whats going on or what your looking for when it comes time to build the bumpers. I will be Back and forth between colorado and arizona around the time of building the bumpers so if your in that area and end up buying one of the bumpers delivery could be arranged.

thanks again
mike
