Ok so for the last 17 years she has past smog no problem, so today I come to pick her up and the smog test only shop said she didn't pass. 15 mph HC ppm max 115 it is 237, 25 mph HC ppm max 95, it is 220. 15 mph CO max .63, it is 4.00, 25 mph CO max .82, it is 4.04. This doesn't seem right she only has 223k, i just adjusted my valves about 2 months ago, she idles perfect. The check engine light now comes on after i left the smog place, go figure, it has never came on for me before. I have a k&n air filter, replaced the fuel pump about 3 months ago, i have a new gas cap. I need some help, how do i start to diagnose these problems.

maybe their bending you over

Could that your CAT is toast. Could be that your airpump is toast. Could be that your EGR system is leaking or malfunctioning.

My 60 had a leaking PS pump, which toasted the impeller vanes in the wir pump, and the crap went down into the exhaust system, plugging it up. My EGR down pipe was cracked, as well. So my first go around, I flunked. After all repairs, I passed with zero problems. Passed agin a couple of weeks ago.

Diagnostics are in order.

That just about sums it up.

Get the Factory Emissions manual and start teting what you can. I was a gross polluter a few years ago and I replaced the catalytic converter and the air pump. Then I passed. I replaced both at the same time, so I don't know which it was.

Find out what code is triggering the check engine and you'll likely be headed towards the source of the problem. Have the O2 sensors ever been replaced?

So i unpluged my smog pumo hose from the air filter and it had suction, then tested my egr with a vacume and the egr is ok. All my hoses look real good. Checked my computer on my truck and it read a code 25 and 26, o2 low and high.So i check with a mechanic friend and he said most definately change the two o2 sensors. I checked online at oxygensensors.com and found OE sensors for about 50 bucks less a piece 87 each, total 175 shipped for free, thanks oxygensensors.com. Let you know how the next smog goes. Thanks for the replies.
