First of all we appreciate quiet, specially when it comes to turbulence Quiet, my first rack attempt was not exactly a success, in fact at speed it was rather loud.

Everything was wrong, time to start from Zero (plus loading anything so high was a total shore.)

Lets say that finding a snowboard for cheap in September in SLC is kind of difficult, but a "Wake Board" no big deal, $8 dollars later and I have my own version of kagemusha, I wish the gragon was in the front but is no big deal.

Hella 3000 will be attach just to the surface.
IMG_8817-X2.jpg

Sadly if I spread them apart anymore, the convexity of the "Wake Board" will start to play a roll on the aiming.
IMG_8822-X2.jpg

The whole spoiler is going to be install at the from of a 80-20 extrusion slim platform that I'm building at unison.

The idea is to be able to ride with the Hella's flat to the spoiler (I'm a little worry their Kaboose is kind of big, as usual bicycle stems will hold the light 35 years working with them give you some level of confidence.
IMG_8825-X2.jpg

You get the idea, from very flat spoiler (To much if anything will create a vortex under the spoiler.

15-20 degrees
IMG_8829-X2.jpg

About 45, the spoiler will be mounted on a semi floating linkage so I can bring it down right in line with the windscreen of the truck.

Pretty step when when we are carrying elephants.

It will be a shame to ruin a nice Kite board, lucky me and not into boads, very strong dense core, very impresive, well to keep it that way I;m going to use a ring of marine plywood, to keep it somehow seat (Did not have epoxi, hopefully my other glues will serve well.
IMG_8840-X2.jpg

The height of the board layers very so using the drill on a really slow speed with the router bit prove to be perfect, zero damage., nice even channel.
IMG_8843-X2.jpg

Last night I dig and glue a pretty large piece of 18mm marine plywood to sere as attachment for the stem, Mounting it directly to the foam core will warranty immediate failure, wind forces can be really instance.

if you ever building a sub woofer box out of this, I was credits for it..[/QUOTE]

Nice work! In for finished product pics. Any plans to paint it or will you leave it as is?

Those baskets look great but they sure are loud. A newer Forester XT with a similar basket flew by the other day and I could hear it HOWLING from two lanes over lol.

Subbed. I like your ingenuity!

Hell NO, NO Painting Nothing, in fact I wish I can have the dragon at the front, specially if the spoiler is flat most of the time..

On one of those, "If it is steel let it Rust" kind of people, in fact the only think I will paint is Carbon fiber because the Ultra violets rays kill that stuff in no time..

can't wait to see the install pics.
The new roof platform is taking a long time to get finish, with almost a 2 1/2" discrepancy in between the front and the back, and I want to keep my 80-20 platform square..

Doh..

So I can slide the bars fore and aft, add more, take some (tons of surprises there) but to make the "Wake board" mount I need to know exactly how wide apart they are.

my personal 80-20 Mitutoyo caliper (the center needs to be high since the roof bow so much and a measuring tape will give you a incarcerate result.
IMG_8672-X2.jpg

The mounting towers are going to drive you insane..

I embrace my "Hack-ness" so everything is build with a deggre or error, plis in reality everything twist, so you better take all those parameters into account..
IMG_8689-X2.jpg

I'm not a "ARduino kind of persons, I just don't thing it make much sense to have motors and servos expose to the weather, but now that we have kiddos, made build a wing angle adjuster, (Fore and aft, height, angle, etc) for them to play..

I try this a few years back..

I tend to stick my finger to the BMW Motorcycle snobs making my bikes as ugly and funky as they can be, plus I can not drill anything straight, so F#ck it..

Sorry if is to loud and sorry for my Horrible Ingles, for polar bear everything will be build "Nice" Pneumatic maybe) since is for the whole family no just my toy..

Dude Delete it you are killing me..

Even better a a "Pitot tube" like you tell speed on a plane (of a Plane odometer.. Doh...!!) and make it variable according to speed, immediate sound feedback also a surface temperature sensor, sun location, Etc...

Believe it or not some of my clients (Ergonomics/industrial design consulting) follow this insane brainstorms to a finish product (for example the Iron butt rally winner in 2005 broke his own record (Holder of the record for about 5 years but the only fluctuate by a few minutes) by more than a hour and a half (In the lapse of a 8.5 day race) thanks so some of this implementation..

Some basic "Zone ONE" arrangement (the instrument/things you use the most) so you can focus on that is really important, when you need to shift 3000-4000 times on a day, start to count)

I hope I can find a hydro unit from one of the airbag 100's or a air compressor so I can lift my rear spare wheel and have a few toys to play like this one.

The white gorilla glue that come on a calking glue promise to be very water proof and strong, but man is almost as mesy as the brown original version..

Tonight I finish gluing the marine plywood inner circles (Three different holes on the router cutter help a lot)

Hopefully tomorrow I get to work on fitting the lights..

IMG_8877-X2.jpg

You know what is going to be really fun, figure out a linkage that is simple and reliable and keep the lights aiming at the exact same angle regardless of the angle of the spoiler..

Yeah on Solid work, no big deal, but try to make it with some how imprecise tools to perform in a very unpredictable world..

Bring it on..

Looking forward to how this turns out @Patineto. Especially after the last couple days of high winds that we get around here, I totally understand. Next on my list - maybe a 50/50 chance of actually doing it - is to pull the headliner and soundproof it. Good luck w/ this!

For scary wind try bridges over water, Oh man I lane split on the motorcycle cross the bay bridge in san Francisco (The upper deck form this strange vortex and low suction areas (like the upside down wing of a plane) and some time I felt like I was windsurfing, one thing to be very careful when you go by a bus of big vehicle (the stop the trucks is just to dangerous) and you get that void of calm air and move you more than a few inches from your path, I still wonder how I survive all this early morning races..

Funny after ages and ages or riding motorcycles (Usually with quiet pipes, you can go some much faster when the bike is quiet), you know what is loud and instance as hell..

Landluging.. Oh man ever little ripple on the pavement and since you are going so far the become a Roar..

In any case I'm tire of loud and I want to be able to be hear to my two kiddos when they are singing in the back seat, with my THule rack it was impossible, at least with all this work will be probable..

Headliners, I took down the one from my range rover, well I did not take it down it was down when I purchase it, but yes is a pain in the butt if you want it right and is a ULTRA Pain in the butt if you want it Perfect, specially since the sound proofing has a density to it..

I will do it in a second if I have the money..

Be sure you well get my honest opinion, my very narrow line of work is base on being the pessimistic uncle of Murphy, Yeah the one with all the silly laws, so I can be ultra picky and Nerdy but also understand the reality of a box with big as tire and a chassis that can do ten laps arorund the world, but hey if it can be improve it why not..

Not much progress on this front, the last two days where really warm so I go to work on the 80-20 rack outside

But I did get to glue to layers of 4mm "Bendy plywood" (old school Gorilla glue) yeah I know it looks ugly, but it will be routed on the ID and OD and then fill the few gaps (No idea what color to paint the wood)

IMG_8910-X2.jpg

That tap at the bottom is to reinforce the mounting for the bicycle stems that will support the Hella's (Lots of leverage do to the wind and more than anything the control linkage..
IMG_8912-X2.jpg

Puzzles.
IMG_8913-X2.jpg

Still need work, mostly in the angle so I can gain clearance when the pivot but obviously first and need to implement the mounting, reason for the plywood at the bottom it need the reinforcement.
IMG_8916-XL.jpg

So far I'm happy, hopeful this weekend I be able to cut the diagonal mount of the rack to learn the exact dimensions so I can "Core" the wake board and start to work on the pivot points..

Ps: I when back to the old school gorilla glue, the white one is kind of wimpy if you ask me.
IMG_8918-XL.jpg

More to come soon, well if is after the 30 I get a procedure done and I be out for at least two weeks (that is why the hurry)

The roof rack is coming along, so that I'm sure of the exact dimensions I can start to work on the spoiler again..

Ps;I cut the edge to wedge/glue 6cms deeep of manliness plywood (concave shape not flat) so I had hardware to it with out compression for the foam..
IMG_9148-X2.jpg

Lifted.
IMG_9146-X2.jpg

Do'h the brackets go on the other side, stainless is so hard to work on with hand/normal power tools.
IMG_9159-X3.jpg

Now to figure out the light linkage and permanent brackets.
