So I trailer my 70 1700 miles instead of my SO 40, but that's another story.

I drive it off the trailer into the driveway fine.

After unpacking for a few days I decide to take the 70 with the wife to the store. Fires up fine, get down the road and the relay under or over by the glove box starts acting up(clicking). Then the engine starts hesitating when the relay is engaging. I take her back to the driveway a little pissed that it's acting up. Day or two later... I decide to take it out again. Fires up fine... drive 20 min to the store.. without a hitch and it's running pretty good at 5800 feet. Come back out of the store and it's acting up again. I want to say that the relay is trying to engage the edic but I don't know. Now my Manual is in a box *SOMEWHERE* which isn't fun trying to find which box. Hell they are all open I just need to actually sift through every box at this point..

any of you have this issue with the 3b(85bj70) that I might be able to look at before i find my manual which might be a week or so...

Thx..Wes

Other then starting and stoping your truck, one of the prime functions of the relay that controls the EDIC is as a low oil pressure engine saving shutdown feature.

So....make sure that you have oil in the crankcase. If you are ok there, hook up a mechanical gauge to see what your cold and hot idle and high RPM oil pressure is. Minimum spec for hot idle is 6-8 lbs or so.

If the above two things are ok, then pull your relay, and make sure the contacts are ok. Clean out the relay...and give that a try that.

A poor ground in your system can cause symptoms like your relay clattering too.

This happened to my BJ70 and after much time and trouble shooting it came down to a poor connection from EDIC. I got frustrated and started moving wires around while it cycled on and off and sure enough Bobs your uncle and we found the culprit.

You gotta hate electrical problems, those darn gremlins can keep you looking for hours or even days.

Good luck

thanks.. I'm thinking it's the relay or ground. I have oil and it looks good, stock gauge reads usual. I'll have to put a mech gauge on it to double check. No previous issues though. I might need to adjust the time since i'm at 5800 now although i don't know how much of a difference I'll see. I'll check the contacts..

Thanks fellas!!
