I have been working on the 1985 60 for about a month, starting the process of turning her into a decent off roader. I am replacing anything under hood that needs it, ie gaskets, wiring, all the hoses. Both axles will be rebuild along with the entire brake system. I am painting the frame with Rust Bullet and then top coating it with black enamal. Stripping the a/c and smog pump system to shed some weight and make some more room under the hood. I am going do some body work and repaint it in the orginal brown. The interior will be done in either black or tan Durabak with the seats recovered in tan fabric. I plan on fabbing some sort of rear shelving system to help with storage needs. I think I am going to run 34x10.50 Swampers. I also am going to add these cool items:

Front and rear ARBs
Front knuckles rebuilt with Longfields
Rear disk brake converstion
Toy Box from Marlin Crawler
Custom rear bumper
Bilstein 5100 or 7100 shocks
Mean Green alternator with duel Optimas

Whatcha y'all think? Any pointers or suggestions?

The only thing I wouldn't bother with unless you have lots of spare cash is the rear disks. Everthing else sounds perfect. My 60's brakes seem fine with the rear drums. The Toybox and the ARB's will change your life. If a spring over isn't included, I would do that instead of the rear disks and the mean green alternator. Have fun.

I don't know, there are times were disks would be nice. Have you ever tried climbing a hill and when you don't make it, find your drum brakes aren't adequate going backwards? I know I've been in the situation a few times. Drum brakes a directional and have more braking power going forward vice in reverse.
