I have a 87 FJ60 and just starting to really look at what I need to do to preserve and upgrade this treasure. What are the " must have manuals " I need to acquire
and where do I get them?

The factory service manual is available here on mud somewhere and the paper version is available from Specter Off Road and other places.

I prefer the paper versions myself

Welcome to the madness

There is a Toyota number you can call and order all the Factory Service Manuals (FSM) that you need for your Land Cruiser. Those are the most helpful. I think there are four manuals but I could be wrong. They will tell you want manuals are available for your year of vehicle. I also got the Haynes manual but find it completely useless. I'll try and find the Toyota phone number for you.

here is a post that lists the manuals that I have for my '85 fj60. "Must have's" are the body and chassis, the 2F engine and the emissions manual. If your truck has already been properly desmogged, then the emissions manual may not be necessary. the post also has a link to toyota material distribution website where you can look up manual numbers, etc.

You can download some of these manuals from these sites. But I the paper versions are easier to use.

I was able to buy a nearly new Factory Service Manual for about $60 (that's about half what they cost new) by looking in Craigslist in nearly ever major US city and emailing everyone selling an FJ62 to see if they had an FSM. I found a couple people who had em and were willing to sell them. Took maybe 15 minutes to find em. I highly recommend it. Good luck
