We're waiting for mud John. If we don't get any precipitation in the next couple weeks we decided to meet at the Cow Mt. recreation area. Parking/staging area on Ukiah side at 9 am, Feb 15.

cool Sizzle, you running in the new taco up to Red Mt? I was into the Pillsbury basin yesterday and saw no snow up on Hull Mt. The roads are in great shape with little to no dust.
Today Courtney and I drove the cruisers up to the Ukiah staging area and it was filled up with rigs at 11 am... that shouldn't be a problem a 8:45 am. We then drove up to Red Mt. (15 minutes) and the playground was empty of vehicles. Drove up to the top and found where the party was last night... Courtney initiated the cleanup and before long we had the embers from last nights tire/pallet fire glowing with blue solo cups. I'll probably make five bucks on the cans too ; ) ... That being said, I like the idea of Cow. There has been a bunch of work done in the last few years and there are certainly enough challenges to keep Larry and Dion and us lookieloos entertained. There are also mild trails for the youngsters to learn to wheel if you're so inclined. If any would like I can take a group around the Benmore loop but be forwarned there could be an issue with full width axles, steep hills and deep ruts.... and BRUSH.
It sounds like there is 100% chance of rain next Sun/mon but we don't expect so much to shut the trails down.
The turn off to the shooting range is before you get to the staging area if coming from the Ukiah side.
Not a member yet, missed the meeting cause my new hydraulics for my clutch came in that day. I will meet you guys at the staging area and play for a couple hours. First real adventure in my first 40. Got it running, driving and dialed in pretty good, just working on cleaning it up and retapping bolts as I snap them off
Can someone give me directions to the staging area. My girlfriend and I will be headed north from Cloverdale.
You can count on me to be a lookieloo and maybe a little more in the new taco.
I got lucky and got my Christmas tree up by Hull mountain the day after it snowed it December. So I was able to get in some snow wheeling this year. Couldn't get all the way to Hull because of the snow but mostly because of others that kept getting stuck ahead of us. it was beautiful up there for like a day. Already shush by the time we headed down.
Coming from Cloverdale, take the Talmage Rd exit 222 in Ukiah and stay right. Two miles to the stop sign, turn right on Old River Rd for .5 miles and turn left on Mill Creek Rd. There should be signs for Cow mt recreation area at that point. It's been many years but seems like 20-30 minutes from Ukiah up to staging. hth
Don
From Ukiah, take State Highway 101 to the Talmage Road exit. Go east on Talmage Road about 1.5 miles. Turn right at Old River Road. and proceed 0.3 miles to Mill Creek Road. Turn left on Mill Creek Road and continue east 6 miles to entrance to South Cow Mountain.
From Lakeport, take State Highway 29 to the 11th street exit. Go west on 11th street (which becomes Scotts Valley Road) 0.5 miles. Turn left on Riggs Road and continue west and south 0.75 miles to Scotts Creek Road. Turn right and proceed west on Scotts Creek Road 2 miles.
The South Cow Mountain area is subject to closure during periods of wet weather. During the rainy season, call (707)468-4000 24 hours a day for current conditions before you come.
It also says:
"Before exploring the Cow Mountain Recreation area, obtain a free map at the BLM office in Ukiah. All roads are steep and winding and not recommended for recreational vehicles. There is no potable water at most site campgrounds."
Can you grab some of those? You know, for guys that wander off and get lost
I'll try to get over there this week. It's much more difficult to get lost on Cow though...as long as you look out the window and not drive by computer screen.
If they do happen to close the area due to rain this weekend then I'm guessing we would meet at the air strip at Pillsbury. With this storm coming through this weekend there should be mud ... stay tuned
I just heard the snow level was climbing to 8k feet tomorrow in Tahoe. There will not be snow up on Cow Mt. However there may be too much rain by next weekend. Extended forecast shows 60% chance on Saturday the 15th. We may end up on Hull Mt. after all... there probably would be snow up there.
I guess we should end this with Cow Mt plan has been deleted... we will be meeting at the Pillsbury airstrip at 8:45 am on sat. the 15th. please see other thread.
