Hey,

So I've been taking my LX ever week in some muddy terrain, my friends say this is bad for my car in the short/long run, is this true!

Would this relate to my TPS/APPS problems?

but

Overall, is Mud bad for the car?

LOL

Just Curious!

not too bad in the grand scheme of things, I guess...

all the same, be sure to clean your rad of packed mud!

Just don't let the mud cake for extended periods of time as others have said. Also, make sure the mud doesn't get into your diffs and you should be OK.

MUD ?!! And you wont even share ?

Sure, rub it in Val....You get to wheel in it every weekend, yet I cant find ANY mud around here... anywhere !! :frown:

OK, I forgive you....But please at least post some more pics showing me what I am missing ;)

Oh your question, I`m pretty sure that most of the mechanical/electrical systems are quite protected from incurring any real damage when operating in such conditions, its probably more just a pain in the a$$ when cleaning up. I would however, avoid the deeper stuff due to fact that it seems to find its way (eventually) into everything that seals/turns/moves ( I.E. axle and hub seals, hinges, A-arms and control rods, airboxes etc..) flushing out grease and lubricants then doing its "thing" by acting like sandpaper on everything after it dries.

I doubt its much worse than running on, say.. Sand dunes or excessively dusty roads though

Pics !

Thanks,

How would I know if its in my Diffs?

SIN I was hoping you would come out to Cali for a week and take some SIN style photos of my rig in the mud!

LOL

Unless your breather caps are messed up you shouldn't get any mud into the diff.

I really do H8mud. It causes no end of problems unless you go after it with a vengence. Whatever you do do not let it sit for a week before you clean it up.

This is why I like wheeling in the snow the most. Fresh powder untouched by snowplows/salters is the most joyous event in my life. Not only can i have a crap load of fun and slide and spit snow everywhere, but when i come home, and every nook and cranny within my undercarrage is literally encased in a block of ice, i just let it sit in teh garage, and it alllllll melts off. And then the next day all i need to do is, nothing.

Val, you should move to the mountains, stop playing in the mud...your mother probably doesnt like it that your getting your clothes so dirty anyways.

I'd guess that the mud does less long term harm than the dust that is in every moving part when I get back from spending time in a desert.

Pictures!?

It dosen't look that bad but it is clay mud, leave it on for a day or two and it turns to concrete;

I took the LX in the mud this weekend for the first time. Didn't get as dirty as shott's sons 80, but I spent a while cleanling it when I got home. Kinda scary how many electronic sensors and what not are under there. Wife pulled out of the garage this morning and there were new piles of dried mud that had fallen over night. Guess I missed a few spots... It was a lot of fun though!!
