which tire would you guys go for and why?

facts that i've gathered from individual owners. information may varry

MT Baja MTZ
-good on wet and dry pavement
-able to pull its self out in muddy situations
-quiet on pavement
-unknown thread wear
-good self cleaning ability

Toyo Open Country M/T
-pretty much same as Baja MTZ but with this alot more people have tried this tire and had good feed backs about it
-really good feed back on the rocks
-proven to be quiet on pavement
-pretty good thread wear
-cleans its self well

if i missed anything or have any inaccurate information, be more than welcome to comment on it

I have been running on the MTZ (5263 - LT285/75R16) for almost a year now, and I really like those tires.
They are quiet on the road, performed great off road including mud and rock, very good in snow as well and passed couple of emergency stops on wet pavement.
However, when it comes to wear…I have aqualu tub and a soft top on my 40, making it a light truck. The Detroit locker on the back axel made the two back tires wear faster then the front, after 6 months the difference was visible to an observant eye. With a heavier truck like a 60 and a locker this wear could be even more of a factor. Having said that, open diff or a locker with an
“on / off” button would not cause the wear.

I would score the MTZ radial at 4.5 out of 5. (I do need another year on them to really judge the wear)

Having never run on Toyo Open Country M/T I have no comments on them, other then I think they are expensive.

hey thanks for that feed back MARCIN.
how much did those tires set you back if you dont mind me asking?
i was actually looking at the 5256 - 36x15.50R15

im not sure if the Baja MTZ SLT series are easily available but thats pretty much the size im looking for

about the Toyo, i've just heard alot of good things about it and has really good road manners and good tire wear too thats why i had it on my option
looked at Interco tires too but thread wear is just bad on it and road noise not really good unless you dont mind the loud hummm

Not either of the tires you're looking at, but my vote is the Goodyear MTR. They are medium on the noise level, soft and grippy on the rocks, good in mud, wear much better than I expected and killer sidewalls.

This is what they look like after almost 3 years: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tjflex/259503831/in/set-72157594200692167/

Just my two bits,
Craig
