I was wandering how the change from 265's to 285's effects gas mileage? Would be staying with a AT tire like BFG or Toyo. Thanks

I went from 17.5 avg with Goodyear silent armor on stock alloys 265/70-17 to 16.5 on oe steelies and 285/70-17 Goodyear mtr's.

I don't have numbers, but I didn't notice much of a difference in league with 285s ... I have noticed a difference in mileage with 4.56 gears, but the sweet spot seems to be at about 60-65 mph ...

When changing tire size remember to take the new circumference into account. Larger tires travel further per revolution, so your odometer will be off.

I run 285 / 75 x 17's (34") and get around 18.5 mpg. Odometer mileage is off about 6 %.

Depends on the tire and the wheels. Going to stock steelies and 34" Toyo mud tires did as much to kill my fuel economy as all the other heavy steel stuff I put on my FJC. They are heavy sum'betches. Worth it though for me.

I have 5 285/75r16s on the truck and am currently running Red Letters (weigh about 90lbs ea), and I get around 16-18mpg. I'm manual trans too. Also pretty armored up too underneath.
