I have a 2010 LC with Prinsu rack and have a Alu-cab rtt and awning coming in later this week in anticipation of a cross country trip in a month. I didn't find much via searching and I was was wanting to get some idea on how others had mounted their alu-cabs to a Prinsu rack. From what I could tell on pictures online, the mounts that come with the alucab wrap around from the side of the tent and then mount on the crossbars of the rack. The issue with this and the Prinsu rack is that the crossbars are not at the same height (cross bars are lower) as the main front to back "beams" of the rack. Just curious if others modified the alucab mounts, maybe used some spacers, mounted it a different way, or I'm just seeing things wrong and it will mount up no issues. Tent will be at my house on Friday and I would like to get it mounted within the next week. Thanks for any info!

When I had my Alu-Cab mounted up on my 4runner... Rin at OK4wd sold me two crossbars and mounting kit that they created, it placed the tent just above the side rails for clearance. It's been a couple of years but I would reach out to them as they had a couple of innovative solutions to get it mounted since it does not mount like most conventional hard shell RTTs.

Thanks for the info! I ordered from them and spoke to them before I purchased the rtt and awning but maybe I didn't make it clear that I had the Prinsu rack. I'll call them again tomorrow and see what they recommend.

How’d this turn out? Wondering what you ended up doing

Heya @Higgin ...
Did you ever resolve this one?
Interested...

looks like he ordered 3 taller crossbars from 8020 and left them attached to the RTT.

I wouldn't do it.

I (briefly) had a Prinsu rack on my Tacoma and was very underwhelmed. The side rail piece wobbles like a wet noodle when it's off the rack and in your hands; there's very little rigidity in it. But beyond that, my biggest problem with Prinsu's design is that the entire weight of everything on the rack rests on the bolts that attach the 80/20 cross bars to the side rails. Bolts are not designed to hold weight in that direction (perpendicular to bolt orientation). If the cross bars at least rested on a flat "ledge," or had similar structural support, it would be a whole different animal. I'm simply not comfortable with the Prinsu's structure. Couple that with the weight of the AluCab RTT (around 180lbs?), and it gives me even more pause. I fear that with enough weight on the rack and enough time off-pavement, those bolts will shear and the entire load will crash into the roof.

Ya... I hear ya & I can see what you mean.

Honestly my main reason for a rack at all is to add solar...and maybe side/rear lighting for boonies alone. Not sure I actually want the height/weight of an awning when push comes to shove. But if ever there was an awning i’d e tempted by, it would probably be the alu-cab.

Deeper down I want very little weight up top, so in my case it might be just as well...
