...where the redwoods meet the ocean...
so my last winch mounted to the winch plate that it sat on but my arb bumper doesn't have a plate to sit the winch on for mounting...does the winch need to rotated and mounted to the front inside of the arb bumper?

here's some pics of what I have...

Winch 'foot' towards the inside bumper and bolts through.

Middle hole/slot is for the winch line to come out via a fairlead (rollers for wire) or aluminium/plastic hawse for synthetic line. Top hole/slot serves no purpose that I know of and bottom hole/slot serves even less purpose :)

There should be lots of pictures of 80's on this forum with arbs & winches. Various shots of my 80 with arb & m12000 are at the url in the link below in my sig.

cheers,
george.

Don't need a plate. Lots of install threads on here. You didn't say what kind of winch

I have a warn 12k

That's a pretty good looking unit. Where did u hear about that brand? I'm gonna have to research this more.

Will that solenoid setup work in an ARB?

I already have one of these on my 4runner although I haven't gotten stuck yet so haven't put it to the test...I beleive it has a 3 year warranty on parts so all I have to do is call amador at truckandwinch.com and he'll replace the parts...seems like a nice setup....

So I don't know if you are set on that Recon, but I looked around some and for about $20 more you can order a smitybilt xrc12 off of Amazon. I followed some links and the guys over at Pirate have been reporting on these units for over three years and they seem to be satisfied, and you know how those guys are.

I am thinking about a Christmas Present for my cruiser in the 12,000lb variety....

that sounds pretty good! any links on those deals? are the smitybuilt made in china? obviously the real world testing is great...how do the components stack up against the recon? overall 12,000 is better than 10,500 and for only about $20, it sounds very interesting...

Amazon.com: Smittybilt 97212 XRC Black 12 Winch: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41yjNG90HnL.@@AMEPARAM@@41yjNG90HnL

Here is the Smittybilt Unit on Amazon. I will have to do a little checking on the spec comparison, but at a glance they seem similar. No wireless with the smittybilt and you don't get the synthetic line, but HP look similar 12k just has more reduction in the gear-set. Both series wound motors, but with the XRC you can put the solenoids in the bumper wing or under the hood if you'd like.

The link posted is good info. I may have to print that out if I get one of these. My wife gets free 2-day shipping thru January, so I am going to be studying on this pretty hard in the next few days.

ARB Deluxe Winch Bar is compatible with High and Low mount Winches. Middle hole is for low mount and top hole is for high mount. Bottom hole is for radiator cooling...
