I'll head there on Friday and setup camp at the McGaffey campground. It is suppose to be closed but if interests are there, they'll open it up for us.

Trail Work Day, Mt. Taylor Ranger District
When: September 27th
Where: McGaffey Camp Ground
Directions: Take Exit 33 from I-40 east of Gallup, then drive south through Fort Wingate. Continue 8 more miles on SR 400 to the campground entrance on the southwest side of the road. Allow about two and a half hours if coming from Albuquerque. There is a Pilot Travel Center on I-40 Exit 39.
Time: 8:45, the work days official start is 9:00
The purpose of these runs are more to get out and explore whats around you rather then running obstacles and testing the breaking point of your vehicle. You may or may not need to use 4wd but probably not low range. With most of these trips we will have a primary trail run with some secondary activities thrown in.
This month will be a little different. A couple times a year it's always a good idea to give back in thanks for all the trails that we do still have left and help maintain what we have. The Mt. Taylor Ranger district has several work projects that need our help to complete. The first two projects are to construct a kiosk for the OHV area and resign the OHV boundaries.
Please be ready at McGaffey Camp Ground at 8:45. There will be a briefing at 9:00 and leave promptly to go to the work area.
What to bring:
Full tank of fuel
Water (2 liters or more)
Lunch (maybe some one can put together a BBQ potluck?)
Camera
Gloves
Sunscreen
You must wear long pants and sturdy work shoes. This is a requirement of the rangers and you will be turned away if you do not comply.
