Hey Team,

I need to replace my motor mounts, and I'm debating between lifting the engine from above or below. From below seems easier and perhaps safer. If I use a floor jack, I would use a bag of salt or sand to spread the load over a large surface area on the underside of the oil pan. If I come from above, I'd be buying a Harbor Freight engine hoist (2 ton variety).

What say you on which way I should tackle getting the lift required for this job?

Thanks
Russ

I haven't done the cruiser motor mounts but on other vehicles I've had success with a floor jack and a 2x4 to spread the load. Loosen one mount, lift that side up and replace, then repeat on the other. I'll be interested to hear what has worked for other folks.

Also I recall having to remove the fan and or fan shroud.

Just did mine with a floor jack and a 2x4 on the oil pan on the front then the trans on the back no issues!! hope you got the Toyota mounts they seem to last a lot longer!!
