motor interchangabilty

Does anyone know whether i can fit the 4.2 turbo deisel motor out of a hdj80 up to the 5 speed transmission out of a 4 litre diesel 60 series

Change the input shaft and the bellhousing and yes. Otherwise no.

Might be cheaper to buy a different tranny. Depending on the cost of swapping the shaft out.
