Hi guys
I would like some help on paint colours after reading the recent 9 page thread on here and going to CCOT web site and ppg, Toyota, several local paint shops and dealers I am still at no further forward.
On the plate on the fire wall under colour/trim I have D566-1440
on an early 79 FJ40.
I also bought a recker for spares(cheap) no engine but less rust than the driver. BJ40 plate says N/7396 Also a 79 and I like the paint.
p.s. Both New Zewland new
p.p.s Cheers

Thanks for the views :cheers:I was surprised that out of 41 no one has an answer but thats about my luck this wk end, hopefully when I bump this back to the top some one may come to my aid

We all like to help ...... but what the heck are you really asking here???

Perhaps you think - like I used to - that "getting a paint code" enables you to get that colour mixed easily and accurately by any automotive paint supplier. Because this isn't true. These paint codes are really rather worthless.

By "rather worthless" - I mean a good paint supplier will be able to hand-match the colour you've got "as-good-as" if not "better-than" if they were to work off a "computer paint formula".

My cruiser's main colour is "Toyota sky blue" (code 854). And my paint supplier (Union Hardware in Newtown Wellington who are my local agents agents for PPG) tells me that PPG regularly change their mixing formulas for ALL their paint colours - and they often remove/add colours from/to their computer as well.

It just so happens that they do still have my colour listed on their computer (last time I checked - about a year ago) and mixing it from this formula turns out "pretty close".

If you provide a photo of your cruiser here showing your colour - perhaps someone can give that colour a name. (Those letters and numbers you gave look odd to me. - For instance my trim code is LK11 and I haven't come across paint codes with letters from the alphabet included in them before!)

A paint supplier (good one) will want something to hold if they are going to match your paint properly because they need to match the DRIED paint colour and this takes a bit of time to do (as you can imagine). Your "fuel door" is an ideal item to leave with them for colour-matching purposes. ........ That's if you really want to match your existing colour - cos I really don't know what you're looking for here.

I've seen (and used) alot of cruiser pant codes here in the US. Yours don't seem to cross over. I suspect you're going to have to search on your side of the world. Try your auto body paint supplier if possible
