I've been fixing :wrench:s*** all over the place . Things I have brought back to life or on the operating table waiting for parts .
Picked up more junk from my father . 1st was his old Sears Sportster chain saw from the late 60s . I pulled the carb apart cleaned it all up (pretty damn clean inside and good shape for the use it got and age) I really don't think it needed it but it got it .
Runs pretty good but need to fine tune the carb during the day as midnight is not a good time to do this .
The next thing he had 2 of so I got one was a Little Wonder yard blower from '87 that he scored off a neighbor some time ago which he said didn't run well . Looked in the gas tank and there's about a half cup of rust at the bottom ,no gas just rust . Theres no way in hell it ran at all. I pulled it off ordered a rebuild kit for the carb and am trying some Evapo-Rust on the tank , seems to be working on the rust in the tank , will let it soak till the carb kit comes in but the srews and bolts i had soaking cleaned up nice so far .
The next toy I got running is a little crappy mccullen eager beaver chainsaw . I got this some time ago from a dude who sold chainsaws and it was a junk trade in unit for a promotion his company was doing . He had a whole truck bed load of old stuff so I picked out 2 of the same model that looking to be in good shape but most likely had gas left in them.
I tore the best looking one down , cleaned it all up and took parts off the other to make one good unit and it runs very well .

Here's a running total of stuff brought back to running useable condition over the last few weeks
1960 3 hp Briggs& Stratton push mower with a crank start
1967 Snapper Comet 265x 26" cut 5 HP rear engine ride on
late 60s 18" Sears Sportster chainsaw
1978 Toro Home Pro 19" push mower with a 3.5hp Briggs & Stratton
2000s Mccullen Eager Beaver chainsaw with like a 10" bar .

So far I have about $60 into everything parts wise .

Just the shear fact they were your Dad's makes them worth their weight in gold....

I still need to find the time to get Dad's tiller and chipper/shredder cleaned up and working.

The old sears chain saw has seen alot of use over the years . We used to sell firewood as a fundraiser when I was in the boy scouts and it was one of the main saws used. I was the smart one and sharpened the chains , and kept the log splitters going when the others did the stacking and collecting of the small rounds .
This was when I was 10.
It says its a "lightweight" but is heavy as hell and feels like I'm pull starting a dragster .
I can barely get my boot toe into the handle to start it since there's no decompression starting system on it.
Since it getting some love I broke down and replaced the spark plug since it has never been changed after 40 + years :hhmm:I think it was time.
Finding an air cleaner is going to be a challenge since I cant find a new one yet and the old one been cleaned so many times it starting to look pretty ratty.

Its nice :wrench: on this old stuff , lets me relax and get lost from other stuff going on in life for a while . At the end I have a useable item , no  hangover plus spent less money then getting the 2nd :)

Stop hanging out in Turkey Gulch with Brad drinking bourbon....

I agree 100% about the old stuff Todd...made tons better, a lot of times just by shear simplicity easier to fix (parts can be a bear).....but who the hell doesn't enjoy a good challenge?

heres a pix of the crap Ive fixed so far , This week is clean the garage week since I got to use the time at work or lose it .
Looking at this pile of stuff I have about $65 total in to them and that's just the parts .
Everything was free to me . The chute cable for the snow blower was the most being $24

I need to fixed some s*** around the house, have two right now.

1. Krarcher. I can get the thing to start but after 5 minutes is surges and shuts down.
2. Craftsman blower. Replaced the fuel line since the other one crumbled in my hand. Just need to prime the line and it should start sucking fuel.

this weeks repair

While cleaning up the garage last week I came across a chainsaw I forgot someone gave me a couple of years ago that was no longer running . $1.29 worth of fuel line and:wrench: I'm up to 3 chain saws now .:hillbilly:

I also sold the old craftsman ride-on I bought for $50 that came with 2 weedwackers and a 21" push mower cut the grass for almost a year ago and that went for $50 :bounce:

I have a little wonder that I use for stoking bonfires....Works EXCELLENT

Got a Craftsman(Briggs) 5 HP shredder. Sat for 2 years-(was running when stored) Now it has no compression and won't run. Carb has been o'hauled. Flooded cylinders w/Kroil a couple of times, but so far, still no compression. Sound like it's worth a teardown?(I would prob pay someone to do this as I have too many other projects on the burner now, but I need a shredder)

sounds like you got a valve stuck open , Id pull the head (15 min job)and see if thats the problem and if so spray it up at the stem and let it sit. give it a tap with hammer and block of wood . It may just snap shut . had a couple where it was just enough to stick open like what you have going on .

Once you take it somewhere if its like around here your looking at $$$ for repair
