Hi all,

I recently purchased a 100 series that I love, though it came with a non-working moonroof. The problem is that It is stuck in the closed position, it doesnt sit flush and the rear sags below the roof line when viewed from outside. To remedy this I prop it up from inside with two rubber door stops from Home Depot. A working moonroof is a want and not a need - but I would like to repair it, if possible.

As it sits, I can hear the electronic click when i push the button but it does not move and I'm cautious about gettng it stuck in the open position. Any advice from others who might have experienced similar issues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! JD

I had a similar issue before as there were things stuck in the track that obstructed the movements on the rail. If you can prop it up, there should be 4 screws on each side holding glass in place. Remove those screws and push glass out from inside and clear any obstruction that may be there. I'd also grease the worm drive gears while up there. BOL

Thank you for the suggestion. I will give this a try over the weekend. I’m worried that I may not be able to prop/tilt the glass up, but will certainly give it a try.

You don't need to prop the glass up to remove it, just remove the black plastic trim pieces to reveal the nuts that need to be removed.

FWIW, the likely problem with your roof is the same as mine, the drive cables are seized into the guides and the only fix is to remove the headliner and free or replace the cables. Depending on our weekend schedule, I might finally get around to tackling that on my truck this weekend, I've had the parts for a few months now. When I do, I'm planning to take lots of pictures and do a full how-to since I haven't been able to find a good one on here yet.

Actually, you don't have to "remove" the headliner, only drop the front end. The grab handles (all four over the windows), visors, control panel (roof switch) and upper front seat belt mounts need to be removed. Then you have access to the entire sliding roof tray. Pro tip: (a) leave the seats as far forward as you can stand them to be, as upright as they'll go and rest the headliner on the headrests; (b) a moving blanket (or similar) on your dash will prevent fatal scratches from the frame as it drops.

There are (4) nuts that you have to remove on each side of the tray and it'll fall into your hands (literally). The cables have to be cleaned and regreased, after the motor is removed. I'd rate it a  job, for one person. I removed a sunroof in a salvage yard by myself in about 20 minutes (and no, I didn't trash to truck while I was doing it). My two teenage sons swapped one out last month in two hours, with no prior experience and only my ten minute how-to lecture as a guide. The only help I gave them was a how-to lesson on using a screw extractor; the left rear grab handles screws wouldn't budge and had to be drilled out.
