guys, we're planning a little camping trip to Monache on one of those weekends. If you're interested, please let me know which works best for you, I'll pick one of the two dates by middle of next week.

This is a beautiful camping spot in the southern sierras, Kern river runs through the meadow, quite easy to get to. there is the Sherman Jeep trail nearby which we'll most likely do.

Kemasa will be co-leading.

let me know

Dana

Related to the Monarch Lake in Mineral King area (southern end of sequoia national park?)

Sounds like something different.

OK, we have a date! We have picked the dates of Sept 18-20.
I'm driving up mid morning Friday. If you can't make it friday, we can
meet you at the ranger station on Saturday morning.

The area is beautiful, so if you'd like to come up, please contact me.

Dana

More info on the area please. Are you talking about Mineral King area in Sequoia National Park?

it's still evolving. myself and kemasa for sure, a couple of friends of ours as well. I've got a few cruiserheads who are interested, and one guy and his wife that drive a tundra. some other inquiries as well, such as you. probably a guy from san diego,

Still got some time, so I'm pretty sure we'll have a nice little group.

How many miles from say, Pasadena is this location?

Man, I would SOOOOO be down for this trip if I didn't have such a full plate right now. You guys are gonna have an awesome time up there!

This looks like a great trip, As soon as I fix my front locker issue I am taking this same trip. Thanks for making me aware of it!

Rafe, you don't need a front locker, or any locker for that matter to go to Monache. The first time I was there, in 1982, a stock VW bug came rolling thru camp about half an hour after we got there!

But there is the Sherman Pass 4x4 rd. and that would be the intended destination.

You could ride with another, but you really don't need a locker for it, assuming it is the same as before. There was only one section which presented an issue, but if you air down properly and take the proper line, then you will make it up without lockers at all. Dana did it with full street pressure and made it. I am not sure if he engaged his rear locker or not.

I don't think that most of the other vehicles had lockers at all. I have done in it my Tacoma without lockers.

The vehicles which had problems had not aired down enough and lost traction. Some were pulled up. I don't think that any of the vehicles in our group had a problem.

Agreed, tire pressure and a good line are all you need. I led a small group of LC's over the Sherman Pass Rd back in the early 90's, and I was the ONLY one that had a locker. The other guys fretted a bit, but boy were they smiling when they found out what a bone stock LC will do. Legendary!:)

I'm out. Wife reminded me that there's some Jewish-religious-thing on Saturday that I need to attend so my kids don't grow up to be pagan-heathens like me :(

You should have told her that there is a history in religion regarding going into the mountains :-).

If I had to have a church the outdoors would be it. Sorry to hear you can't make it Seth. Too bad I don't have a truck and th gf is busy this weekend. Looks like a fun trip.
