Closing the 80 vs. 100 thread was wrong, as was deleting many of the posts by dclee, shotts, FirstToy and Norcaldoug. There were many good pearls of information there, and it is mildly entertaining seeing Shottss dig himself in deeper and deeper.

Come on e9999-you ask the same questions and say the same things over and over and over in other forums and the moderators there don't delete your posts. This is censorship, and it isn't right. None of the posts I saw were particularly personal. Agreed, Shotts needs a thicker skin, but I don't see that happening. 80 vs 100 for various applications is an excellent topic for on-going discussion, especially for those of us considering a 100 series purchase. dclee has an excellent fund of knowledge on this topic, and NCD usually has something interesting to say as well. I say--free the forum from it's shackles!!!

the posts I deleted either were seriously unrelated to the tech discussion or were turning more and more into personal attacks. A joke here and there is fine, but snide comments and belittlement are unworthy of this forum and site.

If somebody disagrees with a post, fine, but stick to the tech issues.

I have rarely deleted posts here but I don't want to see more and more interesting discussions being ruined by inconsiderate comments and personal vendettas.

This isn't exactly tech either, btw, but I'll leave it for a bit in the interest of "democratic feedback"...

COME ON! we all know 40's and 60's are the best cruisers out there :D

i'll go away now ;)

Drew: The thread was going fine until two folks mentioned they'd prefer taking the "newer" Cruiser. Once that hit, the typical gang members attacked me as usual though not the other dude. I have thick skin by the way. These guys mean and do nothing to me.

I tried to remain on task and the continous "you don't work on your truck" crap from the gang members kept distorting the issue. They can make fun of my physical handicap and it still doesn't bother me. I consider the sources.

Of the 6 forums I frequent, I never run accross folks so negative and closed minded as on MUD. It's a shame.

I'm just going to make a few comments in general about forums and moderators.

This is a private board. The 1st amendment does not apply here. The moderator and/or owner has the absolute right to allow/restrict/ban any posts or person they want to, for whatever reason they want. They can legally even choose to ban you because of your race, creed, sex, or other discriminatory reason.

Now that we have clear understanding of what a posters legal rights are to be heard (none) some specific comments. IMHO, the moderators of this forum are far more tolerant of people's behavior, allowing comments, etc., than any board I have been on. Accusing them of unfair censorship is akin to accusing the Dali Lama of being a war monger.

Very well said.

Life is a balancing act. I say the mods are doing a pretty good job.

Thanks, e9999

Cary-I know you are a lawyer and all that, but this isn't about "legal rights". For god's sake, keep that garbage at work. This is about the free flow of information. It's the internet, not the courtroom. I thought the 80 vs 100 thread had covered some interesting territory. There is likely more to cover but now we'll never know because of over-zealous power abuse by the moderator (of whom other moderators have been extremely tolerant as I have pointed out). I don't get to the 100 section often, but I know enough to realize that any given thread may have shotts vs. non-shotts moments. It doesn't detract from the fact that a lot of good information held privately becomes public knowledge in the course of these discussions. I have also seen the protagonists together (e9999, NCD and Shotts) and I didn't see anything but friendly banter

There are not too many guys that have personal direct knowledge of the 80 vs. 100 debate (which we'll still be debating in 20 years:rolleyes: ), but dclee does and yet his posts have all been deleted.

I do believe the discussions here on ih8mud are pretty civilized. Spend a moment on Pirate and you'll see that there was nothing in the thread in question that comes close to the insults, name calling and other nonsense that occurs over there on nearly every thread.

:censor:

edit-NMuzj100-this isn't about whether e9999 is doing a good job, only that I disagree with his premature closure of a potentially interesting topic.

In that thread? Towards me and my handicaps? Kidding right? The "forum gang member squad" was in full gear.

No-I actually meant at CM 2005 when we all ran Golden Spike together.

those that toss grenades should not play the victim.

I wasn't going to comment, but as John feels the need to villify other board members and characterize them as "gang members," once more I just can't sit still. And just who the f@%k "made fun" of your handicap? Please point out that post.

John, I've said this before and I'll say it once more. It's not your technical skills that people get so annoyed with. It's your continuously condescending attitude of "I'm holier than thou" "whatever I say is absolutely correct and you're all wrong."

Did you ever wonder why of the hundreds, maybe thousands, of people on this forum, you're the only one with your own smiley/emoticon? Please just think about that for a moment...

BTW, I say "gang member" is name calling and libel, so there! :flipoff2:

edit: You also constantly mention that you make lots of money, and can afford to pay people to do things for you, recover your truck for you, blah blah. Tell me how that contributes in any meaningful way to any discussion? Not everyone here is so well off, and so they appreciate alternatives to "just go buy a new one." I mean, most of the Cruiser guys I know do very well for themselves. But I never hear this kind of crap from them (and I would hope from myself as well). Again, it's that "holier than thou" thing. Maybe it's that low self-esteem again...

Not gonna argue. :)
I'm done....enjoy, the other members will log on soon and join ya.

I was just bummed that I didnt get to read all that trash-talk BEFORE it was deleted :frown:

Oh well, I`m not too worried cause at this rate, I am sure THIS thread will get just as ugly

Seriously...although (seemingly) a lot of the comments in the 80 vs 100 thread were a bit uncalled for, it did make the thread interesting and, as always, provide a bit of comic relief for those (like me) stuck behind a computer monitor all day long

Have fun Y`all !

That was the most passive agressive response I've ever seen posted on this board.

And to the original poster, I'd like to say that your thread title "abuse of power" is completely absurd. The moderator has the discretion to do what he or she wants, and that thread had descended into chat. Maybe moving it would have been better, but that's not your call. It's the moderator's call. These people do us a service by taking the time to moderate the board. If you don't like how they do it, blow off. To say that anyone is abusing power is child-like. While I personally agree that the thread should have stayed open, attacking the moderator in an open forum, especially to call him "abusive" is a real chicken-s*** tactic.

To the moderators, I say "thanks." To the snipers, I say "shut your whine hole." To Shotts I say "stop being such a passive agressive turd; that's how women and children act."

That is all.

Just for the record, chicks dig me in my 80, and chicks dig me in my 100. They're just two different kinds of chicks.

Isn't that all that really matters?

:smokin:

p.s. We should be bagging on the Jeep and Range Rover people, not each other.

Calm down BHM-If you took the time to read my original post you would see it is sort of tounge-in-cheek, but I did want to make the point that the thread should have been allowed to play itself out. You made the same point. I generally don't like to see threads closed that have good content, because they soon hit the bottom of the page and are lost to consciousness.

Instead, with the threat of premature closure, future posters will be more inhibited from posting what they think-which afterall, is what we are here to learn.

Now if people are really getting nasty, and making direct personal attacks, and providing no commentary or comment, then by all means issue a warning or that failing, close the thread.

I personally have learned tons about the 100 series reading this forum from time to time, enough, that I know what to look for and what I want if the time comes to buy one.

Ditto, moderators should be able to do as they see fit - hence "moderator".
On other forms that I use, that snickering is best used in the chat areas.
Lets keep it to technical knowledge sharing or at least stay on TOPIC.

Thanks mud moderators. I think I will stick around
