Does anyone have the model code for the 76 series with the twin turbo 4.5l?

For example, the Middle East 76 with the 4.2l 1HZ is HZJ76L-RKMNSV

I suspect the code would start with VDJ76L ((or maybe R for right hand drive) but what about the other letters?

I thought the 70 series did have the twin turbo 4.5 V8 diesel in Australia?

This article talks about the sound of the “turbos”
http://www.toptouristparks.com.au/magazine/reviews/61-landcruiser-76-review

This one discussing the introduction of the dual cab 70 series pick-ups talks about the 4.5 v8 D4D
http://www.themotorreport.com.au/53674/2013-toyota-landcruiser-70-series-dual-cab

This review also calls it a “4.5-litre turbocharged V8 diesel”

Nope ,only the 200 series gets the twin turbos. Toyota will never make a 7* series that is faster or more powerful than the flagship.

What is strange is the Toyota Australia website calls the engine “4.5 litre V8 Turbo-diesel engine”
http://www.toyota.com.au/landcruiser-70-series/range?WT.ac=VHLC70TopNavRangeSpecs

but if you look at the specifications:
http://www.toyota.com.au/landcruise...-gxl?WT.ac=VH_LC70_RangeSpecs_Wagon_GXL_Specs

It does not specifically mention turbo:
Engine
- Engine type Diesel
- Capacity (cc) 4461
- Engine description Eight cylinders, V formation, gear and chain driven, DOHC 32 valve, compacted graphite iron cylinder block and aluminium alloy heads.
- Configuration V
- Head composition Light alloy
- Valve gear type DOHC
- Number of valves per cylinder 4
But it does mention:
Forced induction
- Intercooler Standard
Which I would interpret to mean it has a turbo (or in theory could relate to a supercharger).

Only single turbo on the 7* series

Ok sorry for the side show then: Back to the thread topic, does anyone know the full set of letters in the model code for the 76 series with the V8 diesel?

Hmmm... Twin turbo 70..... sounds sexy. Deadly, but sexy none the less.

But yeah, the 1VD on the 70's is a single turbo and the one on the 200's is a twin turbo.

I don't know if I'd rather have a GX200 series or a LX76 series... the twin turbo sure is compelling...

So the single turbo v8 diesel is called the 1VD? I wonder if that engine is available in left hand drive in a 70 series? I think all the talk I have seen about "you can't get the V8 diesel in left hand drive" has always been talking about the VDJ (the twin turbo?). I need to see if the system will accept an order for a 1VDL.

Its not "talk"its fact, the VDJ76/78/79 RHD are special orders (like the dual cab and the HDJ78/79) from Toyota australia.
They just dont exist anywhere else yet, except NZ.

Hello,

That might not be entirely correct.

A friend in the local Toyota dealership told me last week that a few "special order" LHD VDJ78 ambulances are available for the Red Cross. The local branch took delivery of one a couple weeks ago.

Although she insists it was not and HZJ78/HDJ78, I think she might be confused. Seeing is believing.

I will let you know my findings.

Even if this is true, a LHD VDJ78 (or for that matter, a LHD VDJ76,) would be beyond reach for us mere mortals, as we are not Red Cross. Like trying to buy from TGS... :frown:

I did say "yet":D
Ive no doubt there is enormous pressure on Toyota to release them to the rest of the world.
I just did a google search for LHD V8 7* series and nothing as "yet"

Hello Rosco,

I understand your point. Hence the "seeing is believing" comment. :)

Personally, I think my friend misidentified the 1HD/1HZ engine as the 1VD.

Again, I will believe it when I see it. And I will keep you posted.

I wanna believe as Toyota did with the 1KD-FTV we'll see 2VD-FTV as the V8 4.5 single turbo and the 1VD-FTV as the twin turbo setup ..
