I am baselining and just slight upgrades on my 95 1hdft 80 before my family return back to our home in Zambia. I plan on doing all maintenance items, some suspension refresh (my factory hydraulic shocks still work great!). Injectors, intercooler, 3 inch exhaust, and upgraded ct26 turbo (48mm).

So far I have done Injectors, ACSD delete, New fuel primer, fuel lines. 3 inch exhaust is half done (currently dumped right out the drivers door).

I am currently dealing with an almost like stall idle randomly, but always after a hard acceleration. Insane turbo lag, and then after about 7 seconds crazy surge of power and the car launches, nothing in between. Slow as guts or launches.

Any ideas on this?

My fuel lines are not metric, and are clear so I can see bubbles. I have some on the filter to the IP, but small and stay at top of hose and never really make it to the IP. Will be swapping out with metric lines.

Kind of at a loss on where to go from here, fuel consumption seems to be normal, high rpms and speeds the truck does great, its from a stop and slow speeds where I see all of this.

Any advice?

slowly teaching myself how to TIG weld.

Well made some progress today on the lagging of the turbo. Still have some tuning to do but waiting until I install Lutz auto EGT and turbo gauge before I start adjusting fuel and boost.

I had these two vac hoses swapped, still lagging but just 1hdft lagging. Doesn't helping that all my other turbo diesels have been highly modified 5.9s.

Worked on the Rig last night, no avail on still dealing with the lag. Then through a deep search saw someone mentioning the exact same symptoms as me and it ended up being the drop down cable to the tranny.

So I adjusted this morning before work. Holy cow! Night and day difference. The cable is pretty stretched so I will be ordering a new one from Radd Cruisers.

Any advice on kickdown cable adjustment? My 93 has similar lag. It's not as bad as yours. But definitely needs adjusted.

My kick down cable did not look the same as whats in my FSM, but I adjusted (tightened) per the manual and just did trial and error. Based on the fact my doesnt look the same, I think mine has already been replaced as it only has one stopper. Since I don't know the history of the vehicle I will replace anyway though.

Pretty productive weekend. Did valves on friday, all where not in spec range. All on the loose end. Did some tidying of the vac lines.

Installed Lutz Auto gauge system. Was the only one that I though was really clean and I don't like things stickingout. (a pillar are sexy though). Pretty straight forward process, well made kit. The only problem is 30 year old plastics. Started it in the morning and ending up waiting until it warmed up because I felt like the cold plastic was going to shatter!

"welded" a bung onto the custom Exhaust I am in the process of making. I am not good at Tig. Will eventually pull everything off an fill an grind to look pretty with my buddies mig.

I did all the steps except the last one ( one of my bolts is stripped and need to take intake manifold off to get to it) from this pdf doc (1hdft tuning page). HOOLY cow did such little adjustments wake this thing up. By no means am I "fast" but off the line and low end its SOOO much better. I now feel safe doing left turns and jumping into little spaces.

check for drive pressure leaks before the turbo. More info needed on your upgraded turbo, i have seen a few that weren't done right and had big gaps between the wheels and housing. do you have a stock turbo you can try?

I already check all vac lines, by spraying brake cleaner on everything (and no rpm increase). I do have a stock turbo. No sure what your referencing? Adjusting the IP fixed turbo lag.

Drive pressure leaks (between cyl head and turbine) cannot be found with brake cleaner that only works for intake leaks. I was referencing : "upgraded ct26 turbo"

That is in the planned bit. Still plan to do the upgraded ct26, but not quite yet. I think I want an intercooler first. As far as the actual leaks from the turbo itself, I pressurized it while i had exhaust off and soapy water when I first felt like something was up. No bubbles and since IP adjustment have nothing to allude to a pressure leak anymore.
