Are the old and new Toyota fluids fully compatible-- can you mix them in your system?

I have read about four long threads on sorting and tuning the AHC system on my '05 LX470 but I am not clear if the New fluid has been reformulated thus the newer part number- or if just the part number was changed.

I am going to perform a PADDO flush which flushes out a good portion of the old fluid - but perhaps not all.

I am not sure which fluid is in my system so I felt I better confirm.

As best I understand, the different numbers relate to different packaging of the same fluid:

Toyota/Lexus Part No. 08886-01805: This is a 2.5 litre steel drum of genuine Toyota/Lexus AHC Fluid. It is the longstanding and current format I buy in Australia (and which shows recent dates when I buy it).

Toyota/Lexus Part No. 08886-81221: This is a 1 litre (1 quart?) plastic bottle of genuine AHC Fluid which seems to be the common format distributed in USA.

The fluid in my steel drums is produced for Toyota/Lexus by a large Japanese oil company, Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd -- this is printed on the drum.

I can see website pictures of the labelling on the plastic bottles -- these show the same maker and source of fluid.

I am not aware that there is any difference in the actual Fluids.

You may wish to call or e-mail Idemitsu in USA for further details. They should be able to confirm whether or not the Fluids are the same in both cases.

Thank you-- I also believe it is a package change with the same- or at least fully compatible fluid-- or else there would be a warning on the liter bottle.

I just wanted to be very sure since I will not be performing a full flush this first time due to a very painful spine issue.

I am going to pull out the old fluid from the reservoir and put new in since I cannot get on my back to bleed the globes and the accumulator.

Same fluid, different packaging.
