Mismatched Bearing/Race

I was getting my brakes done over at my friends shop, LCS, and they noticed the race was chewed up. After installing a new bearing and race, we noticed whoever worked on this last used a different manuf. for the bearing and race. Boyd bearing and Timken Race. Probably just threw a new bearing in without the race is my bet. You always replace the race when doing bearings as a match set.

Well this got rid of a noise that my 80 had since I bought it. The noise sounded like the tire was starting to cuff, unusual tread ware that makes a sound. But I knew the tires were not the problem because it was there after a rotation.

Did you pay Edwin extra for that discovery?

With what wheel bearings and races cost vs. the cost of damage when they fail, its amazing how people will cut corners like that.
