Hi All,

Wanted to know if anyone has done the conversion. Based on all the negative comments in the regular forum regarding front brake kits from retailers, I figured I should trust the experts and try and do this mini truck swap.

Does anyone know of some places I can look for a mini truck axle? Any tips from those who have done this already?

I'm also open to suggestions about any type of disc brake conversion.

Thanks! And I promise to start making it out to meetings and events.

Tristan bought a kit for his 40 that we did as a HAMOM last Summer...it was a little tricky at times but it was his first time as well as mine but he also had a New Zealand FJ40 and looked like different spline axles being used so we ended up mixing parts from one to other to make it fit right. A one day job and he said it was great...he may be able to give you some info.

Also, I think DBENKE did most the work on Scott Johnsons 40 frankenstein......then there is always Glenn at LexTech.

Oh how could I forget....BELMONT knows everything...I am sure he can hook you up with parts and how to use them. Getting it running is another story entirely. :D :D LMMFAO

Man!!!! Where have you been?
Try calling Glenn at Lextechautomotive. He knows of a salvage yard that could produce parts for what your looking to do. He also should be able to assist you with the install. Great guy and very knowledgable.

Yea yea, I'm still lurking around mt p and the islands. Staying super busy with work and playing hard on the weekends.

Thanks for the info, I'll give Glenn a ring sometime.

On another note a buddy of mine just bought a 40. He is going to town on it. It has a corvette engine, going through a frame off restoration, adding discs all around and power steering. Maybe he and I will come out to the next event and finally meet everyone.

Here is a quick pic of my baby (not going to sell it anymore) late last summer out on folly.

Rig looks good. have you done any body work to it since I saw it last?

Glad your keeping the 40. You might want to check around and find an axle off a 40 that came with disc's and swap the axles out or swap the knuckles. I found a wrecked 79 for $600 bucks right after I bought mine. My 72 now has a hood, windshirld frame, steering column, and axles circa 1979. If not you might find someone parting out a 60 and swap the knuckles. Pretty sure I heard of someone doing that on mud not too long ago. If you swap the front with a later model 40 dont forget about the gears, the newer models had 3:73's your 72 should have 4:10's. (the third members are interchangable)When I did mine I went with detroit lockers and 4:88's. I also did the trailgear backing plate eliminator kit and the heavy duty felt protectors along with replacing the brass bushings.

Also, Check with Trollhole. He has a stupid amount of 40 parts. I think he has axles too.

I did the mini conversion on mine. Not hard to do if you have ever done an axle rebuilt. I could not find the knuckles and other parts local so I bought my stuff off here.

Yep!

Toyota Front Axle

Here is most of the parts you need at a good price. The only thing is the guy that has this axle obviously got rid of the locking hubs for lockouts. Not a good idea for a stock birf, however you should be able to find a set of hubs for $75.
