It's hard to find smaller CB radios that offer SSB but you are legal to broadcast with 12 watts in SSB. It makes a big difference and the airways are usually clear since very few people use SSB.
Yeah, the old Cherokee AH-100 (and under several other iterations of basically the same chassis) is a solid favorite around here. AM/FM/SSB and expandable freq range. It was apparently reissued and updated recently as the Magnum 1012.
While 2m is a solid performer, old radio heads really like the versatility of something like this. If not for all them
cellphones, more people would've been using something like that. But sometimes a cell tower just isn't in reach and even 2m will only let you talk to your group. That's when it is some solid peace of mind to have a little box with a lot more reach potential.
