Anyone know how these are in heavy snow on a 2003+ LX/LC? Not taking my rig off road, only to the mall, so I want quiet smooth and good traction in heavy snow. Anyone experience with these 18" Pilot LTX"s would be great.
Thanks

No, but if you need another set I have 4 in my garage with 3k miles on them and will sale them for cheep. The cost about $1000 new.

They should be decent. You have very few choices of tires in that size, Michelin makes one, Bridgestone two (one all season, one dedicated snow), Dunlop makes one, and pirelli one.

The only way you will get better performance right now is to get a dedicated snow tire.

Next year, Yokohama is supposed to offer the Geolander AT/S in 275/60R18 plus a LT in 275/65R18. Not sure if the additional 1" diameter (3% size increase over OEM) will be noticeable, but my guess is it's enough to cause the tranny to downshift prematurely on some mild climbs where it normally would not have to with the OEM size. The bridgestone blizzak DMZ3's are offered in the OEM size (at least in Japan).

I liked my LTXs in the snow. Much better than MTRs.

I ran LTX's AT's & M&S's on my Range Rover for 80,000 & they were great summer & winter.

Will replace the LTX's on my 2000LC when they wear out with same.

Based on your location you must of had them in some pretty good snow right? How did they do in the snow? I'm talkin the Pilot LTX M&S's.

Thanks

I think that is a great size and what I would like to go too, but my LX has the CPO warranty. Have you asked the dealer if the change in tire size would have any affect on warranty coverage?

This is the main reason that would hold me to the OEM size. My dealer isn't too conducive to mods.

I also have extended warranty. They have to prove that a 3% larger tire did the damage. If it did I will gladly pay up. If my nav goes out they have no case. 99% of dealers won't even notice a slightly larger tire. I mean this is a small difference and I won't ask first:beer:

Whether or not the 3% increase in tire size did the damage isn't the point. It's whether by going to a larger tire size, you are indirectly tampering with the odometer reading compared to the stock configuration since the odometer will read lower than the true mileage. This is a violation of one of the conditions of the extended warranty and invalidates the entire warranty! If you put 33" tires on when new, the vehicle will have really hit 100K miles when the odometer really reads 94K. So if your exhaust manifolds crack at 97K mi, do they fix it? The 100K mi only means 100K mi with the OEM sized tires.

I had Michelin LTX A/T on my 97 F150 and they were the best riding and quiet tires I have had on a pickup. They also were extremely long lasting and performed outstanding in a major ice storm - 300 miles on glaze ice and good traction all the way (4X4).

The LTX M/S have performed well on the LX, but it also has a much more sophisticated 4WD system than the F150. My guess is the LTX A/Ts would be slightly noisier and have slightly better traction in ice and snow.

Damn good point! Looks like I may want to get the speedo correction box:doh:

I have the "Pilot" LTX M/S tires which is what they are called with the 18" wheel size 275/60/18 tires. I know in the 16" tires are just called LTX M/S, with no "Pilot" designation. Does anyone know if these are the same tires with the same thread pattern, so they would perform the same on ice and snow?

my service advisor at mission viejo lexus, when asked about the slight difference in tire size with the revos, said that it made no difference in regards to lexus warranty as the tire size diff was so miniscule.

i'd have to get that confirmed in writing before i changed them out, but with such a small difference it wouldn't surprise me. as for CPO + extended warranty, hard to tell.

my guess would be that most service types wouldn't even notice as a difference of 3% is imperceptible to the eye. it's not like you're jacking it up with big mud tires and lift kits and what not.

all of that said, he may have been just filling me full of crap. who knows. he also said he didn't care if i put on sliders and changed out the bumpers.
