Alright I know we have a pretty good bluegrass following here in NC and this event is a pretty spectacular one and we could even consider looking for a place to camp nearby as the event does not host camping. Wilkesboro is about 30 miles east of boone on 421, or those interested could consider the option of renting an RV, fairly reasonable costs as I have done this before.

We will start with this and see what the response is.

Information can be found here:

Lineup looks incredible, see below:
Merlefest Line-up

Let me know what you all think

I HAVE MY TICKETS. I WILL TALK TO MY DAD MABE WE COULD USE HIS RV. THIS WILL BE A GREAT EVENT! :bounce:

I have no idea who Merle is and I've heard of maybe 5 of the artists, but it sounds like fun! I'd like to check it out.

Sounds like a bluegrass-hippie thing. ;)

Ahh, come on Juan, you must own at least one pair of Birkenstock's

There will be plenty of hippies there, for sure. Rice, Rowan, and Douglas, in the lineup, were all Garicia's boys! Trust me, been a couple of times. Bluegrass is one of the major influences of jam bands, but there will also be plenty of backwoods rednecks (even worse than me) there! Merlefest is a blast, I would be interested in figuring something out.

Skaggs and K.T. w/ Horsnby, Ralph Stanley, Tift Merrit, Sam Bush....all star bluegrass lineup, as usual. Not to mention Bela and Rhonda Vincent.

I'm down!

What I mean is that the origin of bluegrass does not share any hippie roots. The fiddle and the banjo were here way before any hippie was born. Hippies thought they could use bluegrass to advance their agenda towards socialist and communist ideas. The first banjo pickers and fiddle players were actually opposite to any hippie. They had great work ethics, God fearing, cultivated the land and pulled their little wagon all along, built their communities with their sweat equity and never had self entitling ideas neither expected any handouts from anybody, they fought for what they believed, their property rights and their freedoms.

That being said, I believe there is a place for everybody and that is the beauty of music that can be enjoyed by all kinds of people. Even in between different tongues music becomes the universal language.

WHAT ARE THE PLANS??? WHO IS GOING AS THIS IS GETTING CLOSE? AND FOR HOW MANY DAYS?
:bounce:

My wife might like to go as well, she doesn't camp, is there any chance of getting a room one night? If so, can anyone recommend a place?

I'll ask my Uncle for recommendations Joe, he lives in the area.

The Mrs. and I are, as of right now, planning or Friday/Saturday. Probably camping one night and maybe two.

Can't wait for the Infamous String Dusters and Skaggs/KT with Hornsby. If you haven't heard them, give Blue Highway a listen...fantastic. I'm gonna' be bummed if I have to miss this year!

I know this is old but...
I'm there now.
