First off, great meeting the other night! It was great to see 25 people in attendance. To follow up from our meeting, here is the plan that was presented and seconded Tuesday night (I added the prerequisite, but I don't think anyone will have issue with this, it is a car club ya know
)
Problem: We need to determine who is a member and who isn't. Since dues were abolished a few years ago, it isn't clear what constitutes a member from a non-member. Since we don’t have a member list, dues seem like the only viable option which allows people to have immediate buy-in.
Solution: Re-enable dues, see details below (Side note: I am also going to suggest at the March meeting that the $5 due be for THIS year only, with future membership determined by sliding attendance- attend 6 of the last 12 meetings and you are a member. We can vote on this in at the March meeting).
Also, taking from LSLC's by-laws which we have always used, in Article III, Section 1.A, there is a requirement of ”Must own a Toyota Land Cruiser, FJ Cruiser, Pickup, or 4-Runner with four wheel drive that is titled in the member’s name”. Being a Land Cruiser club, we should have this requirement.
Membership Details:
Prerequisite: Must own a Toyota Land Cruiser, FJ Cruiser, Pickup, or 4-Runner with four wheel drive that is titled in the member’s name
1- Membership fee is $5. You will get a sticker for that year too, like LSLC-Austin 2013
2- Once you come to 6 meetings in a 12 months, you get your $5 back
3- Any money left over is given to charity, so there are no issues/questions on where the money is going
4- Attendance will be kept for every meeting
5- Bring your $5 to March's meeting
6- If someone wants to forego paying the $5, they will become a member on their 6th meeting within the last 12 months
As I mentioned on Tuesday, doing some quick math, assuming we have 50 members, which Austin has never had, AND no one makes the 6 meeting requirement, $250 would be given to charity, so we're not talking about a lot of money. And to be clear, this is not about the money, but rather to have member involvement at the meetings, which is why we have the refund. Bottom line, we want you to come to the meetings!
Also at the March meeting, we will:
1- nominate/vote on a Secretary/Treasurer (1 position) for the above as well as any schwag which we want to purchase (shirts, hats, etc)
2- possibly nominate an Events Coordinator to lead the events planning, if the members want to do so
Hope to see you all in March!
