I just wondered what caused this. Overflow tank is all black with runny goopy hose.

can I drive it 20 minutes to the dealer without the pick up hose inside the plastic tank?

I can't find a part # for this one hose also, seems the tank cap and X-over hose w/clips comes as a unit.

Thank you

You can drive it to the dealer without the hose in the tank. What you describe sounds like something got on the hose. Oil, cleaner, solvent?

Makes me wonder what's in your cooling system... Might be time to do a flush.

Yep, your cooling system won't attack rubber if it's as it should be. Flush and re-fill with Toyota red coolant. Any old hose that fits should be fine in the coolant overflow tank.

yup, I just thought it was weird. Never seen a coolant hose like that. I bet its been melting since 2012. I am flushing today, I just wasn't prepared.
that hose # is 1647250100 - back ordered. Would take a week to get as of today. 1.41$ autozone has similar, but way thicker wall hose, I used that. I've had the vehicle two weeks and it took me that long to pull that cap.

overflow cap assembly is 1640550020, which should include the pick up hose.
the tank all in is 1647050100 which also should include the pick up hose.

dude couldn't tell me if both those parts came with the hose or not. All I got from him was a part # for the hose itself.

This just happened to me! My mom and pop shop replaced my radiator fluid with green!!!!
A month later I went to a Toyota dealer and had it flushed and refilled with OEM RED radiator fluid. Inspecting my level about two weeks ago and noticed that hose bloated in the middle where the fluid level was!!??? I opened the radiator cap and found a white milky substance floating on top, and on the hose itself when pulled out of the reservoir.
I'm at a loss if anyone can chime in...

Conventional green coolant when mixed with Toyota red can create the milky substance you are referencing, and seeing that you recently had it "flushed" and swapped, I am betting that that's what's left over. Even though it's a pain, I would do another drain and flush, it will be worth it to get that crap out of there. I would take it back to the shop who did the original flush and ask if they would finish the job. As for the hose, I would just change it.

I flushed mine all day. In all instances it was clear red and then distilled water. Nothing weird in there far as I can tell. I'm irritated with the pass side engine block drain. That sucked. At least it's done.

I was just referencing possible leftover green coolant to the milky substance. I'm a firm believe that rubber hoses just go bad at some point, maybe those pickup tubes have just bit the dust. I'd keep an eye on your upper and lower hoses.

Just posting to compare Jerryb to see if we are comparing apples to apples. I will definitely be re-flushing with the Toyo dealer who did it the first time.

One more.

yes basically the same. puffed up and melting, more than yours though. Under my radiator cap was more clear and less red. UNder the overflow cap was really red and looked like there was never any crossover flow to the radiator. AND the overflow level was at the low line on the tank.
Honestly I think its the reservoir tank, the cooolant, and the hose reacting as a team.

What is the white crud in your fluid and on your cap?

Looks like it's time for some cooling system maintenance.

I can't tell what it is, but I just had a flush done at Toyota dealer cuz my mom and pop garage put green coolant. Two weeks later the goop appeared. Someone on the board chimed in and said perhaps a reaction in the coolant system caused by introducing both red and green and I'm leaning that way. I had never used green coolant since new and only after this flush to get rid of it and refill with Toyo red did this happen. Another of my theories is Toyota dealer introduced something from a previous flush coming from their machine?

No signs of overheating, unfortunately I'd have to call my mom and pop garage to find out what green coolant they used and see any reaction warnings. If they did come in contact it was only during the flush at the dealer. Thanks all for your input!
