Rudy Update
Well, there's good news and good news.
The Fire Rooster (Rudy) cleared customs a month ago - a month I have spent moving my family from the San Francisco Bay Area to Whidbey Island (30 air miles from downtown Seattle). During the interim, it has been well cared for by Tor, Adam and Josh at Torfab. They also added some gear, including a siren/PA system. Thanks, Gents!!
Today I was able to take a couple hours to go pick up the truck, drive it for the first time and bring it home......what a trip. Right hand drive, no power steering, JDM fender mirrors, a big-assed mass of sheet metal behind the rear seat (no window). The mirrors actually work well and there is a Panasonic nav unit with back-up camera to help when reversing. It moves right out and cruises comfortably at the speed limit on our state highway (50mph). Will get it out on an interstate and see how it handles higher speeds. The 3F warms up quickly and settles down to idle and respond well to throttle inputs.
So I got to the ferry toll booth and the fun began - the toll taker jumped out of the booth and ran around to check out the truck and was completely blown away. The guy in line next to me couldn't stop talking about how cool it was (he was driving a very nice/stock Jeep). Ferry deck crew members and fellow-travelers smiled, pointed and waved all the way onto and off of the ferry.
No **** - I felt like a Seahawk player at a parade.
Even better, it drives like a dream. The window regulators and channels are tight and smooth. The H55 shifts like a dream, as one would expect (or hope, at least) for a truck with under 6,000 miles on it.
Saturday, we are having a big party at the house and the Fire Rooster will be the center of attention - more to follow.
