Score! I have seen it in person at Torfab a few weeks ago.

Can't wait to see the progression.

Are you still putting the diesel in it? I saw a post from tor that you were going to keep it stock.

Update time.......

The diesel is going in a BJ73 and there will not be a steering swap.

Rudy the Rooster (it really looks like one) is going to stay stock.

Dat overhang!

My timing is often not optimal

I'm sure your 5500 mile carb has plenty of life left :)

Such a sexy cruiser. Good choice keeping it stock. Does it still have the potential to be used as an operational firetruck or was everything disconnected when it was in Japan?

Thanks, sir. I almost screwed up.

The PTO pump, front mount ballast and related gear weighed over half a ton and I had no desire to keep it that stock. They were removed during the rig's stay in New Zealand.

If anyone wishes to get their own, they come up for sale in Japan from time to time. Keep it stock and fully functional (sales usually include ladders, intake hoses, discharge hoses, racks, nozzles, etc.) or remove all of the fire gear (and service body) and hang a ute tray on the back.

Richard -
If you want a fire truck..... 4WD Toyota Dyna with 14B, seats five, 14,000 one-owner miles up for bid in Japan this month.

Or, rip off the service body, turbo the beast and build an Earthcruiser alternative Expo rig for an all-in price less than a used Tacoma. This one is a 1993 but don't let that slow ya down, there are ways....

Rudy Update

Well, there's good news and good news.

The Fire Rooster (Rudy) cleared customs a month ago - a month I have spent moving my family from the San Francisco Bay Area to Whidbey Island (30 air miles from downtown Seattle). During the interim, it has been well cared for by Tor, Adam and Josh at Torfab. They also added some gear, including a siren/PA system. Thanks, Gents!!

Today I was able to take a couple hours to go pick up the truck, drive it for the first time and bring it home......what a trip. Right hand drive, no power steering, JDM fender mirrors, a big-assed mass of sheet metal behind the rear seat (no window). The mirrors actually work well and there is a Panasonic nav unit with back-up camera to help when reversing. It moves right out and cruises comfortably at the speed limit on our state highway (50mph). Will get it out on an interstate and see how it handles higher speeds. The 3F warms up quickly and settles down to idle and respond well to throttle inputs.

So I got to the ferry toll booth and the fun began - the toll taker jumped out of the booth and ran around to check out the truck and was completely blown away. The guy in line next to me couldn't stop talking about how cool it was (he was driving a very nice/stock Jeep). Ferry deck crew members and fellow-travelers smiled, pointed and waved all the way onto and off of the ferry.

No **** - I felt like a Seahawk player at a parade.

Even better, it drives like a dream. The window regulators and channels are tight and smooth. The H55 shifts like a dream, as one would expect (or hope, at least) for a truck with under 6,000 miles on it.

Saturday, we are having a big party at the house and the Fire Rooster will be the center of attention - more to follow.

Only one temporary Cruiser-cave?

Pshaw......amateur.

You need a Shriner's hat or to become an honorary member of a local FD for parades.

Can't believe the shape it's in. Impressive.

No funny hats for me, but the parade thing is happening. Currently scheduled to participate in the May 17 parade (Norwegian Constitution Day) in Ballard (neighborhood of Seattle).

Also got an informal invitation for another local parade, but details are fuzzy.

We are definitely up for such events. I may need to get clown mojo on - wattya think, scary or friendly?

Made it to the house. My wife retired this week so the fire truck went to her as a retirement present. She said she would let me drive it. Need to clear out the barn for parking, so it spent its first night on Whidbey Island outside.......

Not much to report, other than the truck is finally "legal" with license plates and everything.

ILD HANE = Fire Rooster in Norwegian

(Thanks, Tor!)

Mr. Harris,

Might I beg a favor?

In an attempt to determine what exhaust down pipe I should source, would it be possible to get a few pics in the firewall area by the exhaust?

I think I'm going to regret selling the one I had, but can't see how it would've fit.

Regardless, need to round up something and don't know what ....
