So I finally got my own FJ60! After almost 2yrs of looking and what not, some deals falling through and Kroker being and AWESOME help I was able to pick up a FJ60 for $1500 in West Valley, UT last week.

I have not taken possession of it yet as the wife and I have lots going on every weekend. So it will be a quick trip at the end of Sept out there to grab the new cruiser and drive her back!

For now, here are a couple of the pics the owner sent, full thread is in sign and will be a build thread.

Now the wife will be coming with me when I go to pick it up on the 28th, we will be taking 1-way flight out to SLC where the owner is going to pick us up at the airport and then we will finish everything. We plan on taking our time getting back, so where is a good place to camp/eat on the way back from SLC through Elko and what not? Thinking that we will probably stay on 80 all the way into Reno and then take 395 home to Carson just to be on well traveled road in-case we do breakdown (thank god for AAA Plus membership!).

So the main purpose of the truck will be my DD, bike hauler, dog hauler, camping, fishing, etc rig. She will see off-road but mostly fire service roads with no major wheeling in there.
Modification plans are:
(Short list)
- fix brake booster (already got replacement coming from Georg @ Valley Hybrid)
- replace smog pump with pulley and do full desmog
- replace speedo cable
- do knuckle rebuild on front
- replace all vacuum lines with new lines when doing desmog

(Long List)
- clean interior
- remove interior and put down sound deadener
- replace all stereo equipment
- add WagonGear headlight upgrade and auxilary box
- wire dash with vacuum gauge
- put "dash pad" from Cruiser Corp on to cover cracked dash
- OME L/M 2.5" lift (already talking to Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters)
- 33" tires on stock 15s (or if I can find them for cheap a pair of FJ or Seqouia 16" steelies)
- black out of all chrome items
- Superflow install in engine bay
- Auxiliary battery (second)
- Smittybuilt console
- replace/refurbish front seats
- replace rear panels with WagonGear panels
- install WagonGear tailgate lid
- upgrade headlamps with RoundEyes or Rampage lights and new lenses
- possible WKOR sliders or something similar
- possible Man-A-Fre 4+ Plus front bumper
- roof rack (like the looks of the low profile DiamondRax

So as you can see there is a lot that I want to do with her. Nothing drastic but just fun stuff to help us get around. Eventually I figure that I will replace the engine and go with something like an Isuzu NPR diesel as they are cheap, reliable, and parts are easy to find. But that is a number of years down the road.

Love it!!

Nice and congratulations for being patient!

Nice be careful cruisers can be a bad addiction..

Thanks guys, I am sure that I will be calling on you at some point for help with the rig. Like I said, max I will do is a 2.5" to 3" lift. Thinking now that it may be a good idea to add sliders as "steps" for the 5' wife to get in and out.

Oh yeah I was planning on putting it all into a box and just storing it in the attic. Wife and I have tickets flying out early morning on the 28th, guy is picking us up at the airport and then the deal will be done. Will just have to run by their DMV for one of their 96hr Temporary move certificates and then we will be on our way.

Then it will be saving up for stuff like new tires/wheels, lift, sound deadener for the cab, dashcap from CCorp, and the likes.

And thanks for the "Chow" recommendation WILLD420. Looks like about 3 1/2ish hours from West Valley to Elko with an expected highway speed of 60-65mph in the 60. Figure we land at 9am take the rig for a quick run down drive, head to dmv for paperwork and all which would probably put us done in town around noonish. Then decide either to camp in the truck at a rest stop/campsite or find a cheap motel for the night. Any good places to camp close to town without much of a hassle.. Like I said, plan is to camp in the back of the truck, that is unless the wife want to stay in a motel which then we will look for somewhere cheap.

If you are looking for a beautiful place to camp look at the ruby valley south of elko, or you can go south and go hwy 50 but with a new rig wouldn't recomend it...

for a room the cheepest place we found was wendover, elko and winnemucca are real busy due to the mining going crazy, that will put you about 8-9 hrs home,

also the highway doesn't get nice untill you get into nevada, most of the stuff on the utah side is real choppy so let the wife know ahead and pack a big pillow.. you may also want to check the shocks before you leave slc, the concrete accross the salt lake was that bad whenn we went thru in July, now I was in my big black crew cab but still..

good luck if you run into issues at or arround elko I work for the railroad and know allot of people over there and i am there 2-4 days a week.. Pm'd you my cell if you run into issues..

Ray

Thanks Rayjon. I talked with the PO and he said that the shocks were replaced a couple years ago so the ride shouldn't be to bad. We are planning to stay in Winnemucca (5 1/2 hrs from SLC) for the night and will pick up a room, just checked the room rates and they aren't that bad.

Thanks for the number, hoping that I won't have to use it but nice to know that I have some backup if needed.

had to look up WagonGear panels, cool stuff they even have a tailgate panel for 80's .. almost makes me want to get a fj60..

Yeah that is on the list of things to get.
Unfortunately, he had another Mudd'r that was making upgraded wiring harnesses and fusebox relays for the 6x series (SLCfj62) but he has stopped making them now so looks like I will have to come up with something else for the headlight wiring upgrade and what-not.

Good luck I will be in Elko Friday if you are by about lunch stop and say hi..

Thanks guys
Rayjon - probably wont be there by lunch. We land at 9am, head to the guys house in West Valley (bout 20 minutes) do the deal and then I have to head to the DMV for a 96hr move cert. From there we will probably piddle in SLC for a few hours and then head out to Winnemucca. I will text you though as we are headed out of town.

Well made it to Winnemucca without any issues. She diesels a bit but think that is just from her sitting for pretty much the last year without being driven. Some redo of the vacuum lines and a good tune-up and she will be good as new.

Finally got her home about 1:30pm today. Been doing stuff around the house and running errands. Going to post up picks in my thread in the 60series forum.

So I finally got her desmogged this weekend! Took me probably 36hrs all together and god she runs great now however she just has a slight diesel but I think my plugs are pretty fouled so that is on the list next.
Here is some desmog porn for you all.
