I’m putting this ad out to see if this community has an interest on this beast of a rig. I’m ok with keeping it but don’t see myself using the truck all that often. I’ll be adding more info in the coming weeks. Here are some info:

-1997 Mercedes Unimog U1450
-WDB4271121W187109
-Only 31K miles (41K Km) and low 4K hours (overhaul interval is 12k hours)
-OM366LA inline 6 6.0L turbo diesel INTERCOOLED (can be tuned up easily)
-Three transfer case (road, working, and crawl speeds)
-8 speed synchro manual transmission (forward and reverse)
-Roof top AC
-PTO front and rear
-4 discrete hydraulics
-Aftermarket lights
-Blue roof top lights
-Air brakes
-Refinished paint exterior cab and bed.

Maintenance so far includes new batteries, fluid changes in all four portal hubs, both diffs, engine oil, oil and air filter. Will be doing the rest of the drive line shortly, along with fuel filters and coolant flush. Had new tires done in Japan.

Not a speed queen. Redlines at 3k rpm. At 2600rpm I’m cruising at 50mph (probably can push to 55mph if I go close to redline). Shifts great, stops great, starts right up.

I mainly bought for cars and coffee to be honest and way over optioned for my needs. I won’t be pulling tree stomps, towing logs of wood, and running a snowblower to clear airport driveway anytime soon. Because it’s so maxed out systems wise, the curb weight for this truck sits at 17k pounds.

Price: $55k obo
Clean and clear MD title under my name.

To get a sense of the size… it’s not too overbearing width or length wise.

Oops… you are right. The red number is the hour. So it’s more like 4K hours. Thanks for the correction!

It doesn't get much more "other vehicles" than this. Maybe an airplane? A buddy of mine had several vehicle like this.

I know it’s pretty common knowledge, but wanted to go over some things that are cool about these vehicles.

-Portal axles: keeps the diffs and axles higher off the ground.
-Gearing: some Mogs like this come with road, working, and crawl gear ratios. Even on road gear (fastest), 1-3 gears in the 8 speed is basically equivalent to and land cruisers low gear. In crawl, in first gear, the truck barely moves forward (crazy torque).
-Forward/reverse: all gearing and transmission gear selection applies to forward and reverse.
-Flex: the frame is designed to twist for maximum articulation.
-Built for abuse: I’ve worked in lots of land cruisers and Gwagons. The Unimog is the next level. Everything is heavier. Think 80 series diesel takes a ton of engine oil? This one takes 15L.
-Parts support: Mercedes is committed to making parts for these, even for the OG smaller bodies.
-Road presence: this is guaranteed to steal the show at your next cars and coffee. No not even exotics. There are very few square body Unimogs available for purchase in the states.

Just wrapped up the transmission fluid change using the prescribed GL4 oil. She took 12L of it. Due to having the optional working and crawl gears, the thing had three drain points. Definitely shifts better.

Really awesome looking rig...I try not to get to interested in these because I'm afraid of where it may lead.....I was surprised to see it weights in at 17k lbs that's pretty crazy...This would make for a great platform for someone living up in the mountains that needs a heavy duty unstoppable rig

I tested all the gears, road, working, and crawl. On first gear on crawl, it literally moves at a snail pace. You can hardly tell it’s moving.

Lowered to $55k and taking offers and cool trades! I bought another large project truck so I’d like to move this if possible.

Would love to have this in the Winter for my 3/4 mile long driveway, where I get one of my LC stuck at least once a year (high centered in the deep snow because I push it, instead of plowing when it snows a ton).

Trade for a fully baselined triple locked 93 Land Cruiser?

@chansdaman If you want to get more eyes from Unimog guys on it I would suggest posting here:

For those of you interested in this Unimog search the owners username on this forum:

There’s more info posted there. Which is like IH8MUD of the Unimog world.

GLWS!

Thanks for the pointers. I really appreciate it. Deposit received. Now pending.

Ah sorry didn’t see this until now.

Still in Japan arriving in August is the biggest baddest truck I’ve imported so far (hence need to make room). It’s a 1997 Nissan/UD Condor, 4x4, 7L NA mechanical diesel with a 10T gross weight. Only has 20k km.

It has a custom built rear box with extending sides, with beds, bathroom, a kitchen and meeting rooms. Comes with a 415V 3 phase diesel generator. I’m not sure how it was used before to be honest. It’s 26’ long and 12’ tall. I’m hoping to make it into a budget earthroamer.

Sick. We used to have a UD work truck a long time ago at a glass company I worked at... I forget what powerplant it had but I recall being very impressed with how much of a beating it can take + the turn radius
