Better Description

A concise description of the McGrew Trail Ride as it happens under the tutelage of the Jefferson State Cruisers: The trail is a lot of bumps and bounces, a little off camber, with great views, and an even better camp ground on the Smith river called Sourdough. Any 4 wheel drive vehicle can be driven through the trail, though it is getting a little harder each year, and we recommend taller than stock tires at least. There are by-passes for most of the harder obstacles if you’re not interested in testing your luck.

The trail can be run either direction, there are no rules on that, but when we run it, we start at O’Brien OR, and drive the trail East to West so we finish at Sourdough campground. We offer guided runs on Friday and Saturday of the event weekend. You are welcome to run both days, but keep in mind that it will mean a 2-3 hour drive from camp back to the start of the trail at some point.

Both days we have the Forest Service out to inspect our vehicles for dirt and dust. The trail goes through a very bio-diverse area, and it is sensitive to outside contamination. So please make sure your vehicle is spick and span before the run. This means up under your fenders, and bumpers, and anywhere that dirt can collect. If your truck is especially dirty, you may want to start this process a week early. If they find dirt on your truck, they will send you back to wash it off, which will delay all your fun.

Saturday night we have a potluck dinner, where everyone brings their favorite food to share with the group, and we all eat too much. After dinner we do an event raffle which is, by and large, pretty respectable for a smaller run like McGrew. We usually have a winch or Co2 tank to raffle off at the end of the evening. After the raffle, the official event is over, you are free to wander back to your camp, or hang around the communal campfire and kick the proverbial tires.

Sunday morning we have groups leaving camp to go back to O’Brien, and South back to California. You are welcome to tag along with these groups, or if you are familiar with the area, leave at your leisure. It is always hard to pack up and leave camp; it really is an amazing place to spend a weekend. We look forward to seeing you on the trail!

Sorry, JSC will not be having an official "pre-run" get together Thurs in GP.

For folks coming from out of town or even local Wild River Brewery in Grants Pass is where we have in the past got together for dinner the Thurs before the event.
