So I'm going to be building a list of interesting locations, points of interest, markers, you name it. And I could use your help, because you guys know lots more about the area than I do.

All I need for you is to browse Google Maps, and provide me a link with spot that you want marked centered, and tell me what I'm looking at and why it's interesting. It can be as mundane as "Good lunch spot" or as interesting as "secret superwarm swimming hole." You can find the Link in the upper right corner of the map.

As an example, I've pinpointed Sourdough (or at least I hope that's Sourdough, will be embarressing if it's not!).

In addition to points of interest, I also want to map out the forest service road and the trail. The forest service road is fairly easy to map out, the trail is less so. So any points along the trail you want to mark out (even if there's nothing particularly interesting about it) that'd be a huge help.

If even 10 people spent 5 minutes each marking points on Google Maps, that'd allow me to accurately map it out. All you gotta do is mark the spot, I'll do all the grunt work for connecting them together.

Some POI's to start:

1) Sourdough (done)
2) Secret super-warm swimming spot
3) Sluice
4) Lunch spot

Here is the 2 gps tracks fire rd, and mcgrew if it helps.

Someone can correct me, but i believe these to be correct:

McGrew Half way cutoff (fire rd): 42° 0.696'N 123° 50.114'W

upper Sluece: 42° 2.019'N 123° 51.795'W

Mcgrew Entrance: 42° 2.300'N 123° 45.096'W
McGrew exit: 41° 59.247'N 123° 55.923'W

looking for my file with other waypoints.

Might be to much, but it would be fun to have the other route coming in from the California side.

Bah, I have too much to google map and link: The Oaks (old mining site hikeable from Sourdough, I have a geocache hidden there as well, pretty cool spot). Mr. Hansacker's Grave (hikeable from the other side of Smith River from camp, geocache, but not mine, there as well), 2 swimming holes, old geocache on top of the McGrew trail placed by a geocaching pioneer, fire road into Sourdough from Rowdy Creek (coast) and O'Brien, half way point to split the McGrew in half (lunch spot), O'Brien store, junction for fire road to Gasquet or 199 CA side and some more. I have the Fed quad maps here at my house that are extremely detailed. This is the map I used to make my map which I gave to Jeff to use for the main hand out map. The map is huge and if I had a bigger copier I could make something very cool. But I am out of time this morning, hit me up if my info is needed.

Hey Garett,

If you ever want I have access to a clients scanner, huge drafting plans.

Beginning of trail: 42° 2'3.55"N 123°45'30.87"W

Lunch landing: 42° 1'52.19"N 123°50'30.54"W

Big sluice: 42° 0'39.41"N 123°55'1.63"W

End of trail/saddle: 41°59'13.50"N 123°55'57.32"W

Sourdough: 42° 1'15.92"N 123°57'58.09"W

Whatever that link is is not the sluice. Looks the same but it's not. Edit: Looks like it's shortly after the lunch landing... I think I know what it is, but that doesn't matter... :D It's not the sluice.

The optional little waterfall obstacle appears to be at: 42° 2'2.71"N 123°45'53.13"W The one with the hard right up the hill bypass, and if you go straight you make a slow right and go up the 3 ft ledge....

Thanks Jerod. That's lots of good info, exactly what I needed.

The spot where we originally did lunch, a short ways into the second part of the trail... there is spring there. Historic spot, think it was where the mid way type hotel, cabin or rest spot was... lots of busted china and square nails.

Half way thru the second leg, used to be a sign to Taylors Cabin? Drops down to no where on the right.

just a couple spots that I know of... not sure if already called out under a name.

Liked this old lunch spot. Some shade but not near enough room for the larger groups that we seem to have these days.

Tony, I found another spot for the Cobra Lily at the begining of the trail on the left. Quite a large swath.
