Hey everyone!

The Jefferson State Cruisers have made some changes to the McGrew run this year. We are changing the format to a less formal arrangement. There will be no registration and no raffle. There will be a limited number of shirts available for purchase at the event first come first serve. And there will still be a potluck dinner Saturday night, so don't forget the food!!!

The run will leave the O'Brien Store at 9 A.M. on Friday the 24th of July. The store is about 5 miles north of the CA/OR border on HWY 199.

So come get your truck dirty and hang out on the river with some great folks!

***This is dependent on the fire situation as there is an active fire in the area (details: http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4286/). And we will still want to see nice clean trucks at the start of the run so we don't contribute to the spread of Port Orford Cedar Root Rot!***

PM @retrofive or @2ndGenToyotaFan or @TOY350 for questions or details.

Cool -- See if you can include a 3XL shirt in your limited run :)

See you there!

See you there!
Will do! Working on the shirts this week.

Any count yet as to number of participants? I assume this is a drive out on Sunday? Dog friendly?
No count yet. My guesstimate is 15-20 trucks. Yes we will drive out Sunday. Dog friendly yes. :)

So here is the deal folks.

The JSC "Campout" 2015 WILL happen this year. Due the fire situation this is how we will play it out.

PLAN A: As planned we meet at the O'Brien Store and wheel in ON the McGrew Trail

PLAN B: We call ahead and get the response "The McGrew Trail" itself is closed, BUT the fireroad and Sourdough campsite is open; we will truck in the fireroad and camp at SD.

PLAN C: We call ahead and get the response "The McGrew Trail" & Sourdough Campsite is closed; we will take the fireroad in and drop off south into the Diamond Creek Camp area.

PLAN D: We call ahead and the McGrew trail, fireroad and Sourdough are closed or compromised we meet in Selma and wheel into Deer Crk.

Shirts have been ordered. Potluck is on either way.

I will update this thread soon as we make our call. I really just want to be sure we don't clutter up the area and let the fire crews do there job as well as the safety of the group.

For those interested the active fire is Buckskin. This area was previously burnt in 2002 (the Biscuit fire) which was one of Oregon's largest fires.

Recent fire map: (Soughdough is about 5mi away)

Looking promising!! a fellow club member called in to ask about the current status of the trail and Soughdough.

"I just received a call back from the CJ FS station. As of 7/10 the fire restriction was reduced and both the Mcgrew trail and Sourdough camp were open!! Woohoo!"

Great news!
Details on the potluck? Three of us coming down from Dallas (Salem area), what do we bring to contribute for the potluck?

I did not realize it was a drive out Sunday plan, so we may have to bug out on Saturday, unfortunately.
Need to add @Cruzerman to this thread

We never really have planned the potluck, and every year it turns out awesome. Generally speaking most just bring there favorite dish.

Bugging out on the fireroad is really easy and I will print some maps for those that need to leave early. If you have a GPS like a Nuvi, even type O'brien in and it will even guide you out. Coming in on the FS road there are some turns that want to fork you off, going out you don't see or notice (you would really have to make a hard turn back the wrong direction).

Getting close!!

Woot! Game on folks!

This was posted officially 15min ago :)

"IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Partial Lifting of Buckskin Fire Area Closure: McGrew Trail and Sourdough Camp Are Now OPEN

Effective July 10, 2015, the RRSNF has re-opened portions of the area that was previously closed for public safety in the Buckskin Fire area. The McGrew Trail is a popular destination for motorized recreationists that begins west of O’Brien and travels to Sourdough Camp, and is now open in its entirety.

Areas remaining closed to provide for public health and safety due to active fire and extreme fire conditions include the areas included in the fire perimeter, Buckskin Peak, Franz Meadow, and Doe Gap. A map of the closure area and the official Forest Order, may be obtained at the Gold Beach and Wild Rivers Ranger District offices, and the RRSNF office in Medford. Additionally, the information is available online on the Forest website:

http://www.fs.usda.gov/news/rogue-siskiyou/news-events

The closures are effective through October 31, 2015, or sooner if conditions are favorable to rescind the order. The Forest Service will notify the public when the closure order is no longer in effect."

Bitchin!

How many folks will be camping at the O'Brian store? Long drive for us, so we are staying Thursday night.

Not sure. I have a ride along, so depending on her schedule I may or may not come down Thurs. night and hang out.

UPDATE:

So far things are looking good for us! Forest Service has opened the trail and sourdough. Weather is supposed good and little cooler than years past being the 80*s.

CLEAN YOUR TRUCK! We are not sure if the FS will be there to inspect or not, but regardless the Cedar root fungus is still a concern. Please be sure you have no mud on your truck underside and all. Check all your wheel wells, and inside your bumpers, etc.

CAMPERS coming in Thursday night and staying behind the O'Brien store; we are leaving a envelope at the store counter for donations for letting us use their back field. $5 is appropriate.

Please be responsible and carry water and shovel. This is peak fire season. Campfire will most likely not be allowed.

We will have limited amount of shirts, first come first serve. $15.

We may throw a small raffle so bring a couple extra dollars ;)

Looking forward to it! See you all around 8am Friday at the O'brien store off hwy 199.

I would like to be headed to the trail head @9am.

We will be running CB channel 24 and HAM simplex channel 147.470.
