Does anyone know where I can get an adapter to bolt a 700R4 up to a MBE 3.0L TD? I have an 1991 4Runner that already had that diesel engine installed but I would rather run a GM auto instead of the stock MBE auto. Let me know.

Are you talking about the Mercedes Benz OM617? If so, did you hook up the transmission to a transfer case? Sorry I can't help with your question... :)

I dont know for sure which engine it is. It came out of a MBE sedan, im not even sure of the year of engine. We have not yet hooked up a t-case thats what we are trying to do and feel it would be easier to run a 700R4 than to adapt to the MBE auto. And also the MBE auto does not have an overdrive. Right now with the stock 4.56:1 ratio 31 inch tires doing 65mph the engine is spinning close to 3300rpm. But with the 700R4 it would be doing 2200rpm.

that MB engine runs better at higher rpm. If you drop it down to 2200 there might not be much power. Try to look up the ratio's they run in the MB cars that got these engines. MY 77 300D doesn't have a tach, but my ear and gut feeling is it is pretty high at 60-65 mph.

I believe the MBE cars ran about 3:1 or 2.8:1 ratio in the diff. Im not 100% on the tire size but most cars are about 26-29 inches. With those numbers at 65mph the engine is doing about 2300rpm.

barry you can get a divorce kit from OTT, that would be a snap for the transfer. dont know what to tell ya bout O/D though. i almost did the MBE engine in my landcruiser, with current gearing and tires i cruise @2500 rpm, would have been great.
