Let's meet at Tuttle Creek Campground, on Friday, May 21, at 2:00 PM. David S. (Live to Ski) may go up Thursday to scope things out & grab a few sites if it's crowded, and I'm planning to leave early Friday morning, to also help ensure our best chances at these non-reservable sites. This might be easier than trying to find a wild camping site large enough for our group. However, if Tuttle Creek Campground is full, I'm sure we can find wild camping opportunities, but we may need to split into smaller groups. We can (hopefully!) secure campsites, make a quick Friday afternoon run to Reward Mine, and then get back to camp for dinner.
The next day, Saturday, we can do the Swansea-Cerro Gordo trail to the Salt Tram. I've never done this trail before, but Chris Heron & Marc Mason led the group here a couple of years ago. Photos are on our club website at Swansea-Cerro Gordo 2019. Chris says this is a fun trail with just enough challenge to keep it interesting!
Sunday morning, those who'd like to explore the Alabama Hills, tour Manzanar National Historic Site (44 months that will live in infamy forever, in my opinion!), or just have a leisurely time in Lone Pine (maybe breakfast at the Alabama Hills Cafe?) before heading home may do so.
IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO ATTEND THIS RUN, PLEASE CONFIRM WITH ME THROUGH THIS THREAD OR BY EMAIL, SO I CAN TRY TO HOLD THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF CAMPSITES (ESTIMATED 2 VEHICLES PER SITE). Also, when I compile the list of attendees, you can coordinate with each other if any of you want to caravan from the same areas. I'll email our current Club Directory to all in the directory soon, so you can have cell phones & email addresses, for any off-line discussions.
We can decide on a radio comm's strategy when we meet at the campsite, but I'll be monitoring Ham channel 146.535 on the way up. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
