Now I get the rational of my maps....sharing the goods. No worries! Would gladly give you a quick run down the next time we meet in person or over zoom! Meetings are a bit difficult for me to make due to my distance, but I do plan on making it to at least a few meetings (I'll post on mud for the meetings I plan on attending, but it probably won't be until after July.
I think the main advantage of My Maps over Gaia or OnX Maps is its simplicity, though it does not give you as much data compared to Gaia or OnX. It is easier for people without Gaia (or a designated app for maps) to access, read, and visualize. When I do trips with other groups of friends, I am usually the only one with Gaia, so providing my friends with a My Maps link with the planned out trail gives them the heads up/general knowledge of what trail(s) we will be taking.
coincendently, the Overland Trail Guide crew youtubed an excellent video of using all available resources (including the various mapping apps) to plan off-grid trips. It includes a nice segmant on how my maps fits into the effort. It seems to echo your opinion. I will try and post the link here if I remember......
