No worries! Would gladly give you a quick run down the next time we meet in person or over zoom! Meetings are a bit difficult for me to make due to my distance, but I do plan on making it to at least a few meetings (I'll post on mud for the meetings I plan on attending, but it probably won't be until after July.

I think the main advantage of My Maps over Gaia or OnX Maps is its simplicity, though it does not give you as much data compared to Gaia or OnX. It is easier for people without Gaia (or a designated app for maps) to access, read, and visualize. When I do trips with other groups of friends, I am usually the only one with Gaia, so providing my friends with a My Maps link with the planned out trail gives them the heads up/general knowledge of what trail(s) we will be taking.
Now I get the rational of my maps....sharing the goods.

coincendently, the Overland Trail Guide crew youtubed an excellent video of using all available resources (including the various mapping apps) to plan off-grid trips. It includes a nice segmant on how my maps fits into the effort. It seems to echo your opinion. I will try and post the link here if I remember......

found it here:

Confirming Friday morning is a go, but no mapping source other then onx
I havent used and am not familiar with OnX, but are you able to upload custom maps onto OnX like you are able to on Gaia? If you are able to upload a map onto OnX, you can download the gps file (KMZ or KML) from the My Maps link on my earlier post and upload it onto OnX and run the trail offline.

I see your my map links with all the waypoints but how download the GPS file from my maps.

You can click the 3 vertical dots next to the Trip Title (circled), then select Download KML (highlighted), make sure "Entire Map" is selected, and keep the boxes unchecked, then select OK. After downloaded, you should be able to upload that file onto OnX or Gaia for offline use. **Please note, the way points will appear as balloons and may not show the actual symbol of the way point, but when you click on the balloon, it should show a description of that waypoint.**

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to sit this one out. I’m still re-habbing a recent back injury. I don’t want any of you having to pick me up & carry me around if it flares up on the trip! :flipoff2:

Take cate Joe. Can I borrow your truck to go? Mine goes to her new home tomorrow.🥲

Just kidding on borrowing the truck!

As long as it has a full set of steel skids, we'll get you through.
Just like that Tundra? I'll pass! Not looking forward to no camping for who knows how long. I'm thinking at least 3-6 months.

Cool! :flipoff2: I guess I'll cancel my planned 2" lift, conversion kit to 4WD and 33's for the Prius!
Oh No. Don't cancel the plan. It will be the awesomest hybrid overlander around.
I hear you can fit 35s with a 2 inch lift. Some fender trimming and/or re-shapping can even fit 37s.
:deadhorse:

Nothing like Tundras. Prius has a much shorter wheelbase. And if you just change your by-line from 'LC' to 'Prius', then you should have all the recovery points.

I've been told elsewhere on mud that I'll need to update my signature line too. 😁 Not until she's gone!
