A few of us are going to metberry, longwater, and hacket gulches for a trail ride on sunday. Not sure if we are going to drive all of them. If anyone wants to come your more then welcome. We are meeting at safeway 3275 west colorado avenue at 9am. I can find out times for woodland park or divide if needed. I missed the trail run we had because the inlaws were here and it was my son's birthday. My mother inlaw didn't like the raod going to pikes peak so she would of had a hard time on the trail.

I got a few pics and some video but I am trying to figure out how to get them on here. I'm not the greatest with the computer. But we had an awesome time. We did hacket and lonwater and for being pretty new to wheelin it was definatley quite an experience. We had 8 fj cruisers and 1 jeep. All were lifted. Some had trail damage from hit bumpers to a log jumping up and denting a guys door. I had to hit one of the steep inclines twice I got sucked into a rut and almost dented the door but the rock rail saved it. just got new budbuilt skid plates and hit a few big rocks with them, just trying to get my money's worth out of them. I'll see if I can figure out the pictures.

Saw you guys coming through Woodland Park just before 10 A.M.. Thought about jumping in, But was already headed out with the wife and her Cherokee. The parade of FJ Cruisers looked pretty cool. Glad you had fun.

Did you guys drive past the trail closed gate to get down to the river?

apparently we did, I just did some checking and they contacted predator and apologized and are going to put up some signs for them. there still in the process of talking with them. I apologize to you guys as well. If there is something I can do to rectify the situation like volunteer work up there can you let me know. I feel real bad. this is the one thing I worry about weather hunting or now just getting into four wheelin. I don't want to be that guy. sorry again

No worries.

I know people jumped on you guys pretty hard but there intentions are in the right place. It is a shame that things have deteriorated to the point where there has been a question. The last time I ran those trails there was no question of where the trail stopped.

I want to say that the seemingly good day of trail riding turned into quite a storm of postings on multiple sites. The easy answer is that each person is supposed to know 100% where they are and what is an open trail or what is not but with the different governmental agencies giving conflicting information (go figure) it can be impossible to know 100%. I road the ATV trail 717 a couple of weeks ago after the high winds we had the previous two weeks and ran into many trees that were blown down and across the trail. I have a winch on my ATV but it won't pull a 30' tree that is 18" across. I didn't have a chain saw but think I could some statement in a forest service document that says I can't cut trees without a permit anyway.

..... So why was I typing this again......

Oh ya so lets hope we get some good discussions going from this and move in a positive direction.

I think the group that went on this trip has done a good job of owning up to what happened and cleaning up the the posts. Nice job on the recovery efforts.

Well spoken. I am all for getting out and posting signs, building fences and picking up trash.......Hell, let me know if you want to go out anytime. :D

A few of us that went to hackett gulch last weekend got together to go block off the trail we shouldn't have gone down last weekend. One of the guy's talked to predator and got their permission to do so. They also said they spent so much money on fixing it up that they don't have any more to keep it up. that is what I gather after it's going through a few people before it get's to me. There was no road closed signs where we turned down but they said there used to be. So I called the local sign shop and had some printed up and purchased them out of my own pocket, and another guy bought the posts and hardware. We pulled some downed trees to help block the trail and put the signs where we thought best. I hope no one takes these signs down so something like this won't happen again. I think after about 6 weeks I'll try and get back there to check on the signs and see if it is still blocked. sorry again.

You rock! That is awesome of you to do that!

Very cool indeed. Thanks for taking the time, It takes a world class 'wheeler to to get out and take the time to set an example.

Yes, Thank you for going the extra bit to buy those signs. I know those type of signs aren't cheap. Was this on Hackett or Longwater? I have a friend who is planning to run those trails sometime in the next month and I will ask him to keep an eye out for them and let me know if anything is missing.

Maybe we could have Luke weld up some spike strips to put in just behind them!:hhmm: Just kidding!

Hopefully the signs do the trick. Thanks

this is on hackett, just before you get to the end. I'm all for the spikes, not sure how legal that would be though.

Awsome indeed! It's rare to find stand up people like this much less to find ones that will put that kind of personal effort into fixing problems.
