Monthly Trail Ride, The regular scheduled trail ride will be Medano Pass on May 18th. Leave from the South Meetup Location (Safeway on South Nevada 1910 S. Nevada Ave.) on the east side of the parking lot (as usual spot) facing Nevada Ave. 8am to 8:30am time frame. We'll cross-check radios and then move out. 2 hr transit to the trail head. Take 115 to 67 to 96 to 69 to 559. Could be pretty interesting since Westcliffe got a foot of snow on the 10th of May.

Perhaps we should switch June’s and May’s trail runs with each other?

Since Medano pass is not available to us, let’s meet up at the prescribed location showing above and figure out where we will go. A couple of us have been messaging and we prefer to stay close for important reasons. Bring your ideas and we will figure out something tomorrow morning at the meet up.
on another note, I saw an FJ80 for sale at the north McCloskey lot today. Not the truck town lot, but the one just south of Woodman on the west side of Academy Boulevard. It looks pretty good. It’s sitting out front and their grassy berm next to Academy Boulevard. Kind of a tan color.

I wish I could join, but out of town this weekend, but will see you at the meeting next week. Look forward to seeing what trails you are able to traverse tomorrow. Have fun! Hope your FJ80 sells quickly!

It’s an FJ 80 being sold by McCloskey motors and I have no connection to it. I just wanted to mention it while I was writing this post in case anyone is looking for an 80.

It was just me today. I went to the Gulches, and drove Hackett to the the end, and Longwater to the big rock, where I threw in the towel. Without the winching tree, and being alone, I had no confidence to try it. Hackett, however, I made it up and down the big rock obstacle pretty handily, so Longwater is all I have left to conquer.

I had a couple moments. I got high-centered on my rear diff on the rock ledge near the end of Hackett. I got off it pretty easily, but I'm going to have to grind the damage away and replace the bolt at my next fluid change. Coming back down the big rock, I got some teetering 3-wheel motion that felt like a rollover was imminent (probably looked like nothing from the outside).

I don't remember there being a creek on Hackett , but it's raging pretty good right now. I crossed it twice and followed it (meaning in the water) for 50 yards or so.

I also got a real eye-opener on just how powerful the lockers are. I tried to do the big rock with no lockers, and it was pretty useless. I could get the front tires up on the rock, but they instantly spun and that was it. All locked, it went right up like nothing. Amazing!

As a final treat, there was a mint E30 M3 (red) following a mint E24 M6 (black) down the Ute Pass into the Springs. I haven't seen an E30 in the wild for 30 years, and I don't think I've ever seen an E24 in the wild!

All-in-all, it was a good day with perfect weather (mostly).

I didn’t realize you were a BMW fan, and those would have been amazing to see in the wild. I think I’ve only seen an E24 for sale parked once, and never running on the road. So cool!

It sounds like you had an amazing adventure solo and you played it smart to make sure you were able to continue without external assistance. Wish I could have partaken today with you, but loved the excellent trail report.

The E30 is probably in my top 5 for dream cars... top 10 for sure.
