I would like to help also. I think I can make end of September if it's as close to home as Martinez. More than likely I would have Zoe in tow, if there is no one to watch her or for her to play with, maybe her and I will wander around and do trash duty.

And I probably would be escorting Galen... Maybe I can bring the mother-in-law to watch him;)

I'm out for the 31st and prolly the weekend before (might be just one of the days), but any other weekend in Sept I can make the time to help out. Oct's pretty much open, too.
Something tells me this won't be a one-day cleanup as we have done in the past.
I love this trail complex. Hell, it was one of the first places I went wheeling when I first moved here. I'd cry like a little girl if it got closed down. None of you will witness this, tho. :flipoff2:

OHV Enthusiasts..........

While participating in a meeting today at the Tucson BLM office relating to the Ironwood National Monument I spoke briefly with Tucson Field Manager, Patrick Madigan. He related receiving numerous emails concerned about the possibility of an Emergency Closure at Martinez Canyon................

THIS IS NOT HAPPENING. Mr. Madigan assures me Martinez Canyon is not going to close. He will be sending out an official notice of this early next week.

Many of you met Mr. Madigan at the "valentines Day" meeting in February. I believe he is truly trying to work with us……………….. We need to stay with this guys (and gals). We can make this work for the betterment of our sport……………...

My THANKS to all of you for your concern and stepping up to support your sport when you're worried, but we now need to direct this participation towards partnering with our agencies. BLM is going to need our help to find a mitigation for Martinez Canyon that will work for all.

Please pass this on to your lists………………. THANKS,

Sandee

I thought that area was private property? If so, I would think that they couldn't close it unless the owner had grievances and asked the BLM to specifically do something about it. I have met the son (I think) of the owner out there once before and he was way cool and seemed like he wanted the area to be available to those that would want to see the canyon/cabins/mill. Now of course any vandalism of the area would change my perspective if I were him...and may change my overall view of the situation, but I just wonder if the owner was or would be involved in any actions of closure...or if the state has the power to without permission of the owner??

Nice to hear that they will not be closing the canyon...but the pessemist in me has to say...I will believe it when they send out the "official" letter stating the non-closure.

As far as setting up a weekend campout there...I am in! I have only heard of the damage done to the stone shed and have not seen it for myself, but some hard work, some mortar, and some time...I know we could rebuild it. I am willing to bet that if it were coordinated right, we could easily have more than 30 to 40 people out there from multiple clubs/organizations bustin' their asses putting things back together.
