Hey guys I came across this 60 at my local mechs shop. Belongs to a marine cpl. Kid bought 60 and a month later it blew up. He bought it from a local screw u over car dealership. Its been sitting at shop for over a year I told the owner of the shop I would call the kid and see if he wanted to sell it. Called the marine he wants to sell but he still owes $5700!!!!!!! These guys really screwed this guy! I attached some photos. He had new tires put on it. Any of you 60 guys know how much a used engine is?

Any ideas or ways to help? Thanks and semper fi! The damn paint isn't even the same! Damn this guy got hosed.

He owes %5700 to the shop or the place he bought it from??

a 60 engine is just a 2F, I believe 77cruiser has one that he bought but didn't need. Hit him up to see.

Real sad part is he probably has an 18% interest rate as well. Just a 2f. Tell him to save up and look around a bit. I see them in mud all the time and I, sure Darin has an extra in that wrecked 60 of his.

I feel his pain.. Try buying a 2004 v10 touareg to find out from the shop the dealer took it to told him the cams were shot and he then sold it to muha with no issues. I wish vigilantism was exceptible.

Hey there is always a way for him to go diesel. OM617 with Lukes adapter plate and he would have one sweet 60.

Tell him to join the club and we will help him anyway we can with HAMOM or what not.

Problem is that he doesn't have any money to do the work. Any idea on what a engine swap replacement might cost? I will see if he has any money?

Darin is this something u can do?

Cheapest way would be to find a running 2f would be the cheapest way to go if that is all that is wrong with it.

Only spare 2f i have has a knock right now, so it is not any good till being gone thru. Good thing it ran good.

Wife might kill me but have the 2f out of my good 60 that was in the accident. Head was just off prior to the accident and the piston walls were still in great shape.

the problem here is that he did not do how HW and bought that thing for 6 grand. if he had not done that, then none of this would be an issue. this happens all the time with used cars, and if the dealer wants to charge crazy amounts of money for junk and people buy it, how is that the dealers fault? nice tires though, that probably sealed the deal.

I totally agree ben. The kid had no clue on what he was doing. I look at the 60 when it was on the lot. I could it wasn't worth more then a couple thousand. The lot has a better business bureau rating of F- never seen one that low.

The tires he bought after he bought the cruiser.

We will see if he calls me for help. I've given him a few options and told him that I know people that can him. He has a couple weeks to meet with the shop and get it moved. After that I don't know what they will do. I told em id give them 500 for it but that was before I knew how screwed the kid was.

Thanks for the help and advice.

Those type of places are all around Military Instalations. They should be outlawed and have really been cut back here on Bragg. I used to go with anyone i could to help buy a vehicle. This is a Big Sore spot for me here as i have seen too many Joe's get hosed. They do not know better and think they see a deal because the people on the lot will do the money in house, and know they can go to the Commander to get their money should Joe default.

Yeah, I saw that truck when I was having some work done, been sitting behind Ramon's FILs shop for at least a year and change. Friggin shame, young stud got ripped off by the lemon lot dealer in New Bern IIRC, right Adam?

Good thing is, if he can get a motor, he can drag it to the hobby shop on base and have all the lift, tools, etc really cheap and get it running if he can turn a wrench. Does he know exactly what is wrong with it? Did Gary and his boys take a look and give him an estimate of the carnage?

He bought it from Havelock AutoSales off the Slocum gate.

Not sure what the "stud" is going to do. Gary's guys thought the motor thrashed. Said something about a timing chain. They really didn't say anything good about it.

As far as working on it..... I dont think he has a clue.

Option I gave him. I will tow it to Darin,(kid is paying for diesel) Kid pays Darin to look at it and determine what is wrong. Engine could be shot could be a fluxcapacitor. Kid gets estimate to fix. I've given him the option and told him I know people that can help and won't screw him.

Gary B just wants the damn thing gone. To be honest I think it will be there in a month.

That statement should be clue enough, yes, it needs to get into someone's hands who knows whats going on...

I've talked to them about it... they know it's a timing gear, not chain. Mechanics, I have found, will use that term generically. Honestly, Gary's mechanic is pretty good. Not to attest to his knowledge of Cruisers specifically, but the I6 is about as simple as they come mechanically really.

60...

Sorry If i came of off as Gary's guys not knowing anything. They fix my junk all the time. Hell they did an oil change on the new f250 on fri.

I think what it boiled down to was the owner didn't have the funds to fix and left it sit there. Gary just wants the thing gone.

Is this a easy fix? Costly?

I was trying to remember exactly what they told me the issue was - maybe broken timing gear - but I do remember it had something to do with that. IIRC, if the gear breaks, it'll F the valvetrain.

They don't do extensive repairs like rebuilds, especially on vehicles that may not wind up getting paid for (not to say that is the case, but hell, the thing's sat there this long...) At any rate, I am always a fan of a second opinion, so I'd say have at it.

I didn't mean to come off as defensive, just wanted to clarify that if that info came from Gary direct, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if he said "timing chain" - hell, he still calls his female dog "boy" out of habit and she's 6 years old.

No need to worry about that it will never hit the 88mph anyway
