I have a automatic gearbox with a broken transferchase, can i put a transfer chase from a manual gearbox on my automatic gearbox ?
I have a landcrusier 90 1996mod kzj95 with the 1kzte engine.
Thanks for answers
I don't have first hand knowledge, but on most toyota models there's a difference in the input shaft for manual vs auto.
Edit: good lord, this is an old thread. Cheers.
Ah yes, a very old thread but since its at the top now i shall add my two cents as I've just done the reverse.
All parts are the same aside from the shifter mechanism and the auto doesn't have synchro's. In an auto the shifter is actually on an adapter between the gearbox and transfer case (TC) and two little arms connect it to the TC. On the manual, the sifter is on the TC itself. This can easily be seen as on the auto TC there is a blanking plate where the manual shifter would normally be. Also as i mentioned the auto doesn't have synchro's (Auto you have to stop to engage locker whereas manual you can do it crawling). This is easy enough to put in if you want as all they have done is taken the keys and spring out to engage the synchro's and there are about £2 from Toyota (Keys part no. 36249-35030 and springs no. 33371-14010) . As i did the opposite, i didn't bother putting these back in so effectively i have a manual with no synchro that I have to stop to put in LL .
So to wrap up you can use an auto TC in a manual and vice versa but you will need to transfer at least the shifting mechanism over. If the problem is not the sifting mechanism then you can also just open up both cases and replace the parts you need as everything else is the same.
