My wife & I will be spending 5 days in Mammoth with the Land CRuiser (100 Series). We want to spend a day in the Yosemite, but other than that have nothing set in stone.

I'm looking at the following trails
1. Laurel Lakes
2. Inyo Craters?
3. Silver Canyon - Bishop
4. Coyote Flats - Bishop
5. Deadman pass
6. Copper Mountain
7. Mono Lake
8. Horse Meadows

Anyone know of any other trails that are Easy/Moderate in terms of their Difficulty that are worth checking out?

Thanks guys

Not a 'trail', but while you are in the area you might consider going to Bodie ghost town. All the trails you have listed are nice & will keep you busy for the amount of time you have.

Have a safe trip.

Laurel Lakes is beautiful! I went up there last summer and we only saw one other rig as we were coming down the mountain. Be sure to look ahead to see anyone else- there aren't many pullouts so if you notice someone stop as soon as you see a good pullout.

The Inyo Craters are cool.

Check out the obsidian dome that's on the west side of 395 just at the top of grade as your climbing north past Deadman Creek.

A good trip is to take Hwy 168 East from 395 at Big Pine towards Death Valley/Deep Springs. Go about 25 miles to Wyman Canyon and head West. Follow Wyman until the top where it meets the road to the Bristle cone Forrest. Check out the Bristle Cone area, then follow Silver Canyon back to Bishop.

Then your in postion to do Coyote Flats the next day.

Great area, I just came back from 2.5 weeks up there and Bridgeport. If you go to Bodie, go abot 16 miles past and check out Aurora also.

Have fun,

Doug

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

I'm heading into the same area, just curious if anyone had anything to add or updates on road conditions.

Road conditions are good. It is still a little smokey and hot. Plenty of open trails to explore. Our local club is doing a run Saturday the 25th. It is being led by McVicker (post #2) and will climb Kavanaugh Ridge to about 11,000 feet. We are meeting at the Vons parking lot in Bishop at 0700. You are welcome to join if you like. From there we will caravan to Whoa Nellie Deli (Lee Vining) to fuel up one more time. We will be there at 0830, leaving at 0840.
