Picked up this M416 a couple days ago. Build date 12/65.

Pumped some co2 in the tires, and dragged it home.

It's pretty abused, but not a ton of rust to deal with, just a lot of cosmetic issues. I'll also have to reverse some redneck fabrication. Can't complain, for $300.

Used a power puller to straighten that bulkhead today.

Some real fancy tailgate fabbin' going on here. :hillbilly: Probably going to try to salvage the sheet metal there, and build a suitable gate.

The rear cross member is bent, so that will get replaced with some rectangular tubing, with a receiver.

Ripped the old mismatched lights off today, and pulled all the wiring. I'll start fresh there.

Parking brake works, and the wheel bearings seem like their OK. Tires will get replaced after the SOA.

Overall, I'm happy to have found one close by, for dirt cheap.:D

I'm jealous... grats bro.

Stripped out the old wiring, and replaced with new. Put on some temporary lights, until I replace the rear cross member, then it will get flush mounted LED's.

I like the trailer. I'm building something from scratch that i can sleep in. sort of like an offroad tear drop. what's your plans with this one?

side note, what are the specs of your 80? i like the stance!

Plan to take the tub off, rebuild the tongue of the trailer, and the rear cross member. Also, flip the axle and run larger tires. I'll straighten the tub a bit, and build a tailgate, and paint to match the 80. Then use it for hauling the gear on trips, and odd projects around the house.

The 80 is on 37's with OME J springs and L shocks. I'm about to upgrade my suspension, since the shocks are getting old. Some nice newer options out now.

Thanks!

What you have there is a 1965 Steven's M416-B1. For information purposes. It was used in the Marine Corps with the M422, Mighty Mite. Only 2000 of these trailers were ever produced. I also have one of them with a cut out tailgate, just like yours that Bubba cut himself. The PO had it professionally fixed and it looks better than what Bubba did in the first place.

I'm going to start working on this thing again. Picked up a couple Pro Comp wheels, and I am going to run a pair of my 80's take off tires.

I'll flip the axle, and get these mounted up, this weekend.

Getting some work done on the trailer today.

The boys helped put valve stems in the wheels.

Mounted the 80's old tires. Reusing the balancing beads.

Played a game of, 'will this fit'.

Started working on the axle flip.

My 54mm socket worked on these axle nuts.

Flipping axle.

I had to run a 1/4" wheel spacer, to fit over the funky lug studs. Why is that hex protruding from the hub?

And, as it sits tonight.

Measures 50" to the top of the tub.

Nice build.

Could you please take a close-up pic of the Jerry can mount plate on the passenger’s side?

Thanks

Excellent pics! Thank you for your time.

Adam: Would you be willing to privately share your serial no. for your M416B1. I am restoring one and am trying reconstruct the registration numbers painted on the side which correlate with the serial no.'s Thanks! Mike.

Started tearing the 'tailgate' off, to put it back the way it once was. Cut a bunch of rusted bolts, and brackets out of the way.

Tacked in place for the moment. Need to add a little flat stock and angle iron, inside the tub, for support.

It was a good day, working with my Dad, and the boys.

Another Saturday with my Dad, and the boys. We finished welding the tub. Added brackets for the parking brake cable. Then, started the rack for my RTT. We're using the same 80/20 cross bars as my PrInSu rack, so the tent will easily mount to the 80, or trailer.

Cut the old tongue out of the way, so the receiver tubing could be welded in. I'm going to play with the length a bit, to see what I prefer. I've ordered a Max Coupler.

Mounted a Destaco latch, modified to suit, for the tent platform.

Next, we'll be working on a lid, for quicker access to the rear of the tub.

Bolted up the tent, this afternoon.

This rear section will have a lid/shelf of it's own.
