On a recent trip from Catalina, we stopped at the bottom of the long pull up to the gap to let a couple of southbound jeeps come down and have the full width of the trail to maneuver. While we waited outside our vehicle for them to pass, the drivers stopped above us and exited their vehicles and began to discuss how they could move material to fill in the deep center rut and then create water bars to keep the problem from re-occuring. The jeeps had Forest Service markings. Maybe they were just out enjoying the day and doing just enough "official business" to justify being out there. That section of the road with the deep center rut seems to cause quite a few problems. We had assisted a Rhino type vehicle just prior to enountering the forest service guys that had rolled several times after falling into the rut. Fortunately the passengers had not been injured and were able to right the vehicle and with our assistance get it going and drive it out. So anyone know what the plans are?
