NICE! Super well done, Steve! I applaud you for the willingness and the action!

Do me a favor, if I am not there, get me a copy of the forms and the sign in. We need to keep track of the volunteer hours worked. If there is one thing I learned with this Tellico thing, it's keep good records and CYA.

I'll keep track of all volunteer work. Records are gud. Check ur email.

:D

I'm in! Before this thread was moved from the Rover thread, someone asked what tools we should bring in addition to garbage bags. I have usually found a shovel, adze, and a rake (fire rake especially) to be helpful, especially in cleaning out culverts on FS trails. Perhaps a chainsaw (maybe check to see if we need "chainsaw certification" from the FS) for downed trees (we've had heavy rains and wind in the last week).

I don't want to see this idea get bogged down again by trying to do to much at once........ lets just go pick up some trash

we need to get a date nailed down..... August/Septemeber??

True enough...

If it's too close to OTMT I'm out. Now that I've doubled my travel distance things will be a little more difficult to show up for.

With the price of gas going up I'm also being careful about when and where I drive. We can always meet up somewhere convenient and Cruiser-pool to Whee.

Yeah, as long as I'm off work I'd be glad to ride with someone once I get to the Greenville area. Or, if there's anyone in the Charlotte area that wants to go we can split gas. Either way, it still can't happen too close to OTMT because of family time/work.

I'll be going from CLT as long as the weekend works schedule-wise, you're welcome to ride along...

Sweet! And, same to you. Where are you? Maybe we can get together sometime and oogle cruisers. I'm in Fort Mill.

Always up for talking cruisers over a beer after work or the like.

I am in CLT, close to SouthPark mall (10 minutes from I-77).

Another Charlotte cruiser guy here as well. As most have said if work allows I would be more than willing to help out any way I can.

You are the man for organizing this. Give me a date, and I'll do my best to open up some time to get up there. I could even pick up a passenger or two on the way up, since I'm sure I drive by several of you guys on my way to the smokies. I love the mountains, and I hate to see all that trash. It seems to have gotten a lot worse since they 'paved' one of the ways up to the top(being intentionally vague). I'll see if I can't get some of my friends that went to WNC to help out with the cleanup as well, once you get a date.

Great idea!

Don't know if I can commit but this sounds perfect, show some good pr for a change. PM me the date and I'll try to get some low country interest as well. If it can be scheduled I will either drive up or ride with someone to help. Again great idea. :grinpimp:

I just got off the Old north state ROVERS site and they are talking about the "holy land" closing and several gates have gone up. Has anyone heard about any of this. I have only been there once and have been dying to go back up.

I talked to the FS today. We (UC) should hear something in a week or so about volunteering for trail maintenance. It is my understanding that no trails that are currently shown on the FS trail map as open will be closed.

Could always just be seasonal. Keep in mind much of that area is public game lands and unless that changes some sort of access will remain...

Ok good, I got real worried there for a second. I dont know of any better place in NC for cruiser camping.

Closing would really suck...esp. since I haven't been there yet!

I HIGHLY sugget that everyone that likes wheeling or camping, or hiking, or hunting or using our National Forests become very familiar with the Travel Managment Rule. EVERY forest is REQUIRED by law to go through and figure out what roads are and aren't open, and for whom. This stems from the desire of some groups to have "wilderness" areas, which means NO ROADS AT ALL. Don't think that this won't effect you either. This is NOT a west coast issue. It's coming here and it's going to effect where we can recreate. Please take the time to become aware!

USDA Forest Service - Caring for the land and serving people. <---OK, that's the FS' wording on the hyperlink, NOT mine. Just FYI.

Serving like a bull services a cow is more like it. Whops nevermind:whoops:

very true. The locals would go ape-poo if they couldn't hunt their bear by baiting them with honey buns and sending dogs after them :hillbilly:

you know they ain't walking in.
