Howdy Y'all (thought I'd get into the Yankee lingo),

I'm replacing my head gasket on my '97 LX450. Am gonna do some other stuff while at it.

Does anyone know of reliable machine shops in the Maine area to dye test the head?

I will probably call CruiserSolutions, but looking for other possibilities as well.

Much obliged.

I have a shop that I've used several times for these heads as well as others in the past. The guy does great work. He's semi retired right now so he tends to avoid new customers. If you want to hand off the head to me I can have him do the job.

I live in MA just inside the border on I95.

Rick,

Thanks for your offer.

It's funny you should reply. I was gonna put your MAF mod in when I saw the weeping on the block and realized my coolant was low.

Then I remembered the sweet smell in the exhaust and then started checking. 2+2=4.

So, I kinda have you to thank for the headgasket check. O/W it woulda been a seized engine or cracked block.

I still have to get in touch w/ Cruiser Solutions for other things. I'll let ya know by midweek. Does your contact also do valve jobs?

Doug

I used Malden Machine to do the head on my Tercel about a month ago. Super fast turnaround and they did a nice job. Judging by their website they do a lot of race engines as well. They charged 65 bucks do mill the head on the Tercel. I'm not sure if the price is higher for the monster head on an 80. They're in Malden MA on RT 99.

Update:

I used RPM in Auburn, Maine. The guy charged $90 for dye test, clean, and milling.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
