What is the shape of the inside of the casting that the spring loaded, rotating lunette mounts into?

Is it just a double cone shape?

I'm thinking of taking a piece of 2"x2" bar stock & having it machined to accept the M416 type lunette & shaft.

Then mounting that onto 2x2 single trailer tongue.

Does that make sense?

Edit: after a bit more research it might be simpler to take the receiver casting & mill off the angled sides & bottom flat & mount that onto the trailer tongue.

I've looked but can't find pics of the cast receiver part bare from the side.
Anyone have or know where I can see some pics?

Save the V mount and Lunette.
Sell them and make some $$
The original castings and rings sell high.

Fab up a new mount with the 2 x 2 receiver that mounts between the tongue rails
